Virgin Mobile is going 4G.
I was looking last week at the 3 network offer for unltd calls and texts with 4gb of 4g data(instead of the usual 1gb) for £9.
I phoned Virgin to get a PAC code, which they gave me, but they also told me that as of today they would have 4G. I didn't believe them but chose to wait until today to see.
They have agreed to send me a replacement 4g micro sim for 99p via post office.I chose to keep my existing contract of £12 unltd texts and minuites and 2gb of 4g data. They also said that they could do me 2500minutes of calls and unltd texts and 4gb of 4g for £15, but with a £2 discount so that would have been £13, can't remember if that was for 12 or 24 months but I want to retain my unltd calls. They weren't offering me any deals with unltd calls.
Will have to see how the 4g looks when I get my siim in 3 to 5 working days then.

OP, the tariffs are online, and it lets you keep your double data or any promotions you have on your 3G contracts, also there was no charge for a new sim for me, sent FOC also Im getting Unlimited Calls, Texts 4GB of 4G Data for £15.00 and a £5.00 discount until 2099, no contract renewal either.

but from what I have read, 4G might be limited to 25Mbps.

there is already a thread running for this here http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/virgin-mobile-finally-getting-4g-2508368

Guess I'm just sh*t at haggling. Wow O2 do clones. I bet virgin don't do clones. Would love one for my tablet.

don't really wanna lose my free double data or have the monthly rental increased on moving to 4G,
Anyway wondering if the whatsapp free data offer is applicable to the current 3G virgin users without having to upgrade to 4G?

seeeeeeen!!
thanks for the info
I've got the same idea as you ... I don't want to carry a phone when running or doing my other fit drills but still want to be contactable. This duo sim same number setup would be great. I wouldn't mind moving to O2 for this . Any pointers on official O2 web blurb
Thanks again

You do not lose double data and £15+ tariffs are the same price on 3G or 4G.

Excuse my ignorance.... I have 2 sims with them.

If I move to 4g and I am in a bad area for 4g, does it just drop to 3g?

Or can I take it that if I get 3g ok in an area, the 4g will be ok too?

Thanks.

If they have 4G in your area, then a bad signal will drop to HSPDA+/3G

Did the same 2 months ago. Should have done it sooner.

Does the new 4G price plans include calls to 08 numbers as the older 3G plans?

Also, I'm on the old £10 2500 mins (+2500 mins to 08 numbers) + 2gb data (+2gb double data) 3G plan. If I ask them to send me a replacement 4G sim on the same old plan, without switching to the new 4G plans, would the 4G work?

Thank you.

Probably, as Im on an unltd text and calls package for £12 on 3g, getting a 4g sim as we speak but agreed to pay 99 p postage, others have got it free so HAGGLE it would appear on face value that they will honour existing contracts and just upgarde to 4g but will also offer you better data packages (if like me you are on unlimited calls contracts by downgrading unltd to 2500 mins calls for example). Nearly chose 3 network with 4gb on 4g for £9 but am currently getting nearly 12 mb dl and 3mb u/l with virgin which is faster than my landline and never used 3 before , track recdord of 3 also not great so...... Just hope Virgin 4g is better still..... Watch this space after sim arrives.......

Great! Thanks for the advice, will give it a try today. My current Virgin 3G speeds at home is 20 mb d/l and 3 mb u/l.
