Hmmmm. Do you think they dont have cables that plug into their box?

Think again! Their cables still need to enter your house (through the wall) and fed to where ever you have the box placed.

Yes but obviously it still needs a cable to get the tv reception, it doesn't come through the mains socket.

so that comes in from the wall then and into box?

I switched from SKY+ to Virgin just over a year ago. SKY was just too expensive. I already had broadband and phone with them, and they offered a V+ box for £25 installation and just £1 /month extra for the XL TV package.

Missed the sports and movies but get most other channels, and saved about £45 a month so was worth it.

As for the Box, it has good and bad points.
Good:
Can record 2 channels and watch a 3rd
Bigger hard drive than SKY+
Lots of on demand (including music) and catch up TV, including HD content (all free on XL package)
BBC HD (ok, only 1 channel but you get none on SKY+)
The box is rented, so never need to pay for repairs

The bad:
Programme guide is SLOW and frustrating at times
Have to admit tha'ts about the only bad thing about it.

Overall very happy with it, and NO intention of going back to SKY.
