I you are looking for a very good antivirus try comodo antivirus and firewall it is free from one of the most respected companies on the internet (they are a Certificate Authority and there are not that many of them). If you are wanting anything else have a look through their free offerings

http://www.comodo.com/products/free-products.php

if you want anymore advice give me a shout

Further to my comment above dont use AVG free as it will not get rid of or detect rootkits *well the free version does not

I have used stopzilla. Load it then uninstall it on the questionnare tick the box that says you thought it was a free trial version. After you have uninstalled it, check your e-mail (it might be in your spam folder) for a link to download and use the full version for 2 weeks.

After trying a few freebies when Norton run out (and I was never ever getting that again!) I am now using Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and has been good so far. Have tried AVG but was not impressed with it. Could do with a malware one if anyone can recommend?

used to like avast, but have tried ms security essentials and that seems really good, especially for PC's with limited resources.

super anti spyware is recommended by lots of people. using firefox rather than internet explorer is a good idea. backup is essential.
