NO MORE RYAN AIR FEES

NO MONTHLY FUNDING

Some people want easy access to their money but don't need an overdraft* or a full branch service. If that sounds like you and you're over 16, the Easycash account could suit you down to the ground.

You won't be able to:

earn interest when your account is in credit
have an overdraft or chequebook
use a branch counter to pay in money, withdraw less than £300 or make a routine enquiry.
You can:

get a Visa Electron debit card - pay for your shopping and withdraw up to £300 cash from any cash machine that shows the LINK sign
access your account day or night with our 24-hour online and telephone banking service
arrange standing orders and direct debits and set up bill payments
have your salary or benefits paid straight into your account
pay cash notes and cheques into your account using our Immediate Deposit Machines and Express Pay-In boxes.

Does any other banks offer Visa Electron btw? Looking to open a bank account and saw Barclays. They have a Visa Debit so I'm not sure if its the same as Visa Electron?

No, it's not.

BTW, if everyone starts paying with Electron cards, Ryanair will soon make changes and apply charges :whistling:

The Post Office Travel Card is an alternative that does mean SOME fees but eg only a few pounds to put a couple of hundred on.

Actually you may be able to avoid the 1.5% fee by topping up in Euros and then making sure you buy in Euros on the Ryanair site (eg buy via a Euro country at top right). I remember buying in Euros at least once as prices were a lot cheaper if I put 'Italy' (where I was going). Though I guess you'd be hit by a £/Euro conversion when setting up.

All I can say is my PO TC £200 top up (ie to get my moneys worth for 1.5%, min £3 fee) has saved me ££ on Ryanair fees.

Hi , just thought id mention, myself and the wife has had these cards for years and years now. Ive never thought about it until i read this. Ive never ever been questioned in the bank about using these services such as low withdrawals and pay ins. Have you ever seen a bank refuse money into an account i dont think so. Anyway been using for years and no problems at all, charges are £15 for missed direct debits etc. cant use is some petrol stations but great for the likes of ryanair. Yes, i know, you all hate ryanair, but come on get real, it costs me £6 return to my local pub in a taxi. I took the whole family to spain for less than that, what do people want for flights under £5. great card

The idea of free only if paying by Electron (while costs vendor a few pence for Debit and c1.5% for Credit) has just been featured on Radio 4 Money Programme - as if it were some kind of news.

What was news is that Abbey will stop issuing (replacement) Electron cards from 14 Dec and that Electron is due to be phased out over next few years.

Ryanair were quoted as saying they offer Electron free due to non-UK promo deal with Visa and that 30% (can't recall if passengers or bookings) use it.
Radio 4 couldn't get Visa Europe to acknowledge any such deal.
That didn't rule out idea of a Visa continental member having a deal with Ryanair.

As we all know advertising rules require all non optional & anticipatable charges to be included in adverts, hence why airlines such as Ryanair have ONE cop-out 'free' payment method - so even if Electron does vanish there'll be another brand along soon no doubt.

Apparently the majority of customers in mainland Europe use an Electron Card to pay for Ryanair flights, Electron Cards are far more common there.

News on TravelMail - it's ALL CHANGE at year end.
Out go Visa Electron
In comes MasterCard PREPAID
"'Passengers can use their MasterCard Prepaid cards to pay for Ryanair flights from December 1, while our Visa Electron promotion comes to an end on December 31."

My posting of that got moved to Miscellaneous at
