anyone else got it running really slow- http://www.speedtest.net

odd thing is upload is still at 500kb (its norm)...

as in is there a problem or are they trying somthing or am i being capped for using to much of the connection i amentitled to for bogus *cough* reasons and not the fact that they decided to offer a service they could not sustain?

thanks

capping happens between 4 and 9PM and basically if you download more than 300Mb within that time you get throttled (capped) to 1MB (download @ 119KB/s)(roughly) for 5 hours.

I'm on 10MB in the Nottingham area and currently getting:

I get throttled basically every day and haven't been "told off" yet.

You havent been capped.

It happens between 10am and 9pm. You need to download 1.2gb if you are on a 10meg connection, and then you get throttled down to 2.5meg.

I think I may be quoting 2Mb. I thought they were all the same - i only upgraded to 10Mb last month.

interesting but also rubbish as i should still have 2.5meg... assuming i am being throttled

I got the top tier 8mb package with BT and i'm lucky to get dialup speeds at peak time because I dare to use the speed I pay for. :x

Honestly what do they expect me to do with an 8mb connection, just check emails? :?

Do you live out in the country somewhere? You may be getting low speeds because you're a long way from the exchange (especially if you've been told you're too far away for ADSL).

I'm thinking of switching to sky unlimited broadband when I move as they haven't put any caps etc in place as of yet. I read a which? survey report about a week ago about how ISP's don't mention the capping and most of them have stupid caps like download 30gb in a month and you get cut off. I'm on virgin 10meg and download about 1.3gb a day and get capped it's really annoying. Am I correct to believe Telewest didn't cap there internet?

Well I remembered!
Here is the late test @ 01:28

No i am under 10 miles from the VM Southampton hub so nice and close and i normally get my speed,

Would test again though not at home atm.

Looking at the last 2 speed test they dont seem to make sense shouldnt the person on 20meg and closer to maiden head server have the lower ping then the person on 10meg further away... or have i misunderstood pings?

If that's your local exchange then ten miles is a long way away, I don't know how long a reach virgin's cable has but ADSL's maximum distance is around 5 miles.

They do have the lower ping, 10ms vs. 14ms.

I would exoect a greater gap and i dont know where my nearest was i guess it would be 2 miles away as the internet always says that im in the town next to me, Also my speed is normally 10meg so it wont be that unless they shut down my normal one :p

Well speedtest looks like it's rounding the distance to the nearest 50 (must be an American site) so it could be 60 miles vs. 70 miles.
