Following my earlier post about my son messing with the laptop this afternoon, I've just discovered he also must have done something to make the volume icon disappear!

Anyone able to advise me how to get that back please?

I won't be letting him near it unsupervised again!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simples!!!! (if you have Windows XP)

Go to "start"
Go to "control panel"
Go to "Sound a nd Audio devices"
Put a tick in the box next to "Place volume control in task bar"

Click OK to get out of the window, click the X to get out of control panel

And

The volume control should be showing down near the clock (it is possible it has been hidden, make sure you click on the < in the circle to see hidden icons!)

Regards,

John

Not sure what OS you're using but for XP it would be...
Control Panel >Sounds and Audio Devices
There you'll see a "Place volume Icon in the taskbar" checkbox.

in which case, untick it, click apply, then tick it, click apply

Im an xp person, and dont know vista

but do they still have a system restore thingy? to go back to an earlier date, in this case yesterday would be enough?

anyone explain to lovesbargains the steps for vista?

From what I've read, you need to uninstall your audio drivers, reboot and then reinstall them.

Thanks for all the above. At least now I know how to turn the volume up by using the control panel. Will try what's been suggested and otherwise will have to live without the icon!!

Thank you all for your advice - rep added.

here are the steps to try system restore for Vista. This could solve the problem. takes a few minutes and switches machine off and on throughout the procedure. Just wait patiently.
