Vote if you want - Mega Mosque

Subject: Vote if you want to Subject:: Mega Mosque As you may know Ken Livingstone is planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated £100M in the docklands. Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities. The mosque will be BIGGER THAN ST PAUL'S and WEMBLEY!!! The plan is for it to be so big so that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will see it as the biggest landmark in London, bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium. The vote so far is 56 % in favour. It looks like the Muslim community in the UKis casting its vote in droves, and as usual we are burying our heads in the sand... It is an undemocratic use of British Tax payer's money, especially when our Churches that are 100's of years old and part of our history get no government funding to keep their structures standing, and we are supposedly a Christian Nation. To vote to "Scrap the 'Mega-Mosque" please sign the official Government petition in the link below. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ScrapMegaMosque/ If you want more people to know and vote, forward this on.

If you read the message on the petition from the government it's actually not happening lol

If we vote it still shows the said Government how we feel about these issues.

Under planning legislation, local planning authorities are responsible for the day to day control of development in their area. In doing so they are required to take into account all material considerations including the views of interested persons and particularly local communities.

nothing to do with the government, it's the local council.

btw i'm not for or against it before someone says otherwise!

If it's so undemocratic, why have 56% of people voted in favour. :?

I have no problem with this at all. We have a massive mosque in Gravesend, entirely paid for by the Sikh community. They have a close knit neighbourly community as far as I am concerned and they are also happy to welcome anyone to take a look around and use it.

We could all learn a lesson from this.
#5
The petition is scare tactics anyway, "it'll be bigger than anything, the first thing people see"
#6
And when the government says no, We can all expect a nice back lash, Can't we!!

The money could be better spent elsewhere in my opinion.

I was told, by a person who works for the mayor of London, that the Muslim community was paying to have this built - I think there may be some funding from Saudi Arabia as well

I don't object to it, but there may be some concern over the logistics - for instance, will the attendance justify its size?

I'd be interested to see what peoples opinions were if this were to be a Cathedral instead of a Mosque....

I agree and hope this will not divide people.

Mayor Site
The Mayor of London today revealed an organised email campaign around an online poll being conducted by the Evening Standard aimed at stirring up communal hatred by spreading entirely false statements about plans for a new mosque in East London. These included a totally untrue claim that the Mayor was planning to spend £100 million of public money on the mosque when there are no plans to spend any public money at all on the mosque.

Nah, had it in an email the other day and checked it out then. If an email says "repost this" or "send this to your friends" then it's usually false. If it were true then they'd leave it upto you.

At least we still have freedom of speach (well a little bit) If the UK says no will this be another excuse for more problems???????

You really need to be careful when saying that OP cause it could sound slightly racist lol. Im not saying it is racist in anyway but it could be.

Im not for or against it. To tell you the truth a lot of money in this country is being wasted as it is. And i think someone on here said that if they did say no they could expect a backlash lol. With the current war on terrorism im not sure Brown with all the problems that are happening at the moment would go ahead with that lol. After Rushdie and the Carbombs its getting a bit scary.

I dont mean to offend anyone by what i said lol Sorry if i did. Im not sure if this mosque is going to be built or not just giving an opinion :)

This has been spread around blindly by people for the last year, and everytime I see it makes me chukkle. How someone can actually post something as inflamatory as this without checking facts beggars belief.

If you mention anything about another faith/race, It seems the word "racist" is thrown against someone, The days when Britain could stand up to things have gone, Everyone creeps round trying to be PC, Ridiculous!
#18
Sorryyyyy!! I didnt mean it to sound that it was racist. Im just saying some people can assume that it is.

My post wasn't wholly directed at you TBH, But it was obvious someone was going to mention the words "Racism" or "Racist", It was only a matter of time.

You can't say anything any more without someone being offended.

It may be worth you reading the OP's post carefully first. It was clearly intended to stir the issue up....IMO

Fair enough...but Im sure you can see how this kind of issue can stir up extreme comment one way or the other. Personally speaking, I think its great to have so much interesting architecture about...it doesn't hurt anyone.

Community spirit isn't too high on the Christian agenda. How many Christians could you see accepting being taxed purely to fund a church...not many that's for sure.

It was a copy.

Its just an example of what this country thinks it can waste our money on.

I think the Olympics is a waste (I am in the south-east)

I think lottery money to the arts and faiths is wasteful.

And lots lots more.

I just think that as a country, we should have alot more say in how our money is spent. It should go into things that benefit the majority, not the few that protest the loudest.
#31
prissy but if you read ducks post it is not happening. it is something that was created to stir things up!

Yes, I'm starting a campaign to bring it back to our family diet.

I would find it rather strange if the Sikhs paid for a mosque to be built - Sikhs place of worship is a Gurdwara and Muslims place of Worship is a mosque.

As far as I am aware, the plan is/was for the mosque to be built with privately raised funds, not British Government funds so I don't see a problem with it in that manner.

spam-kobabs:

Dice spam. Skewer spam chunks, alternating with chunks of pineapple. Run the kabob under water, heavily sprinkle with brown sugar, and grill for about five minutes. Flip it once or twice.
