Voting Cold

Can we introduce a system where we are prompted to state a reason why we vote cold on threads?
I have noticed reasonable 'deals' voted -50 without any comment at all, maybe the item was listed previously or there is a specific reason why it is so cold-I think it would benefit us all if there is a comment made to clarify the cold vote.
What do you think?
Is it possible to have a prompt asking why we voted cold?

I wonder if some people vote cold to stop deals being as popular and taken up by quite so many people.

but it probably is just the case that some people just look at the deal and think, well I dont like/need/want that product so i'll vote cold.

I always leave a coment if i vote cold, unless that coment has already been made (ie a cheaper price for the SAME product being shown)

What is flame batied?
I am not looking for an argument, just making a suggestion as I have added threads and although it looks a good deal has been -80 and no comments.:whistling:

I tend to vote hot if I think its agood deal and not vote if I dont like the product etc...but lately there have been good deals voted cold ? /good idea too...leave a comment if you vote cold....

I do the same and I don't think it is fair to vote something cold without explaining why.
People go to a lot of trouble to post deals and I think it only good manners to comment on their deal either way. :)

This has been discussed many times before Scusey, so you might want to check out the following discussions. (Thanks to emasu for the links)

What does this tell you then? If it has been discussed so many times that it seems to be an issue? What has been done about it? This topic obviously is causing concern, but to no avail.

Well reading the threads it tells you that it is a problem with no real solution as there are equally strong (and valid) opinions from both sides of the arguement.

Just thought you might be interested in seeing what those opinions were.

How do you vote this cold?
Or is it a stupid comment?

Why would it be a stupid comment? This post is cold as it's been done before many times.

So have you anything intelligent to say?
I was making a suggestion on how to improve the voting.

Yes I have...

Well done:thumbsup:

You've just shown EXACTLY why forcing people to say they've voted cold is a BAD idea:)

Right. I told you I voted cold. Obviously as this is in misc I didn't and couldn't. By doing that you felt the need to confront me on the matter. Now imagine if that was in every post on here. the place would be one massive flame war

I do agree with you in principle, people SHOULD say why they voted cold, but it seems a lot of people are just to scared to give their reasons.....

thanks, but what are the consequencies of remarking why you have voted cold? Can you get a negative remark or lose points, I don't understand why people are scared of adding why they vote cold. Please explain what can happen-I aint been around here for long:thumbsup:

You can't "lose points" for making a negative remark. However, as Shengis pointed out, when you state why you have voted a deal cold, then others will often feel the need to confront that person. If everybody had to explain why they voted cold, then this only makes matters worse and the potential for each thread to turn into a flame war becomes so much greater.

There are no actual consequences board wise. You can bet though, if you tell somebody you have voted cold it's going to end up in an argument one way of the other. That's why I generally DO say when I vote cold

A lot of people don't like conflict though, so they stay silent. Then there's the serial cold voters. If you believe that's what's actually going on, ask a mod to look into it as they can see who's voted and how they've voted:)

OK, point taken-sorry I had a bad 5 minutes!!!

The moderators are able to see who votes what on each deal.

If we feel a member is persistently cold-voting without explanation, we will PM them with a warning, and link to the code of conduct which states:

"We request that cold voters leave a reason for doing so. By leaving constructive criticism, it will help your fellow members improve their posts in the future."

If that member continues to cold vote without reason, we can remove their voting power. :)
