VPN on Sky CONNECT slowed down this week @ Peak times (0.02kbps) ? Any ideas?

(I have asked this question on a Sky User and Av Forums, but not had a reply as yet, but thought i would post here as i know a there are a few members here in the know.

The Question --

VPN has been covered a lot in the past here and on other forums, which I have read but not found the answer to my question.

I am currently on "CONNECT" (you may see from another thread i can leave within contract due to the poor service i have had due to connection speeds at peak times, but less about that now)and in the meantime between switching from CONNECT I have a question regarding VPN.

I currently have one of the NEW Black Netgear Router's and VPN works fine when OFF PEAK -

Off Peak a Speedtest.net returns a connection of 5.00mb which i can live with..

However..... PEAK TIMES, i only get a 0.02kbps connection!!!!! If i run a speedtest, net side by side with my personal laptop that gets a steady 0.70kbps at peak times.

Im fully aware of SKY's traffic management application, but was not aware it can and does throttle VPN at peak times too??

Is there any way around this??

The VPN worked ok at peak times all last week slow, but workable but seems to have nose dived this week..

Has anyone else seen this in the last week or have any advice??

Cheers

Rick

it's handled by BT and that's what they do. Don't know of any work around except moving to a bigger town. Sky don't throttle.

What VPN Client are you using?

Has the Concentrator at the other end been checked at peak times and what is the user license on it?

Have you spoken to Sky in regards to QoS on VPN connectivity at peak times?

If your on Connect they may have gone the way of O2, as in slamming anything they think is P2P traffic. Found myself at 5kbps last week, quick call and found that most isp's are inforcing traffic shaping on connect packages to make it "Fairer"

Quite quickly moved to a better provider.

As an FYI O2 introduced this on all connect customers a few weeks ago, with no notification "as it is suposedly covered in fair usage policy" Also refered to as unbundled service

Thanks for that... i will move house then.......

Its not BT as the connection at the exchange it fine, its Sky Traffic Shaping managment application which does it at peak time as per their T&C's.

Alfonse What VPN Client are you using?

It's Nortel, large end user and decent infrastucture,

I have spoke to SKY, they have advised that VPN is not supported full stop, but their TSM limits all p2p, streaming traffic at peak times so it could be captured in that.

id3als - Quite quickly moved to a better provider

Luckliy Sky have agreed to allow me to end the contract mid term for the broadband, but not Sky Talk, and the only LLU product is Talk Talk. -- which is another issue !

Thanks

Seems ISPs have cottoned on to customers using VPN services like Relakks and BlackLogic to get round peak traffic shaping for P2P.
