Want broadband but don't want home phone line.

£0.00 @
I want to get rid of my phone line as I hardly use it but I still want to use broadband. Anyone know of the best option to take? I am currently on talktalk.

+1 or get virgin media.

Or cable, if you in a cable area.

I'm on 3 mobile broadband. One off payment of £10 for a dongle then £15 per month on a rolling contract for 5gb of internet.
#7
If you have cable in your area, Virgin will do just broadband.

Unfortunately no cable or no free broadband in our area. so I will have a look at dongles. As I don't use internet that much it would have to be pay as you go.

im intrigued as to why you dont want the phone line?
#10
some exchanges have wireless within them, so if you live close enough you could get that..mine has but i dont use it...its called Kijoma.......

Everyone now has mobiles in the house and after paying more than thirty pounds a month for broadband, line and calls I am hoping to cut costs down

There are only 2 options:

Virgin Media Cable, though the deals packs with TV + phoneline do offer better value, you might find the phoneline works out almost free anyway.

3G Dongles, for permanent use one of the three 15gb deals when it comes up half price probably best, but you can't easily have it shared between computers (you can plug it into a desktop and leave that on 24/7 with internet connection sharing turned on, a £15 wifi router won't do though), and you would be subject to all the problems of mobile phone signal dropouts / weather adversity etc. You also cannot get genuinely unlimited usage.

Thanks for that but I don't have cable in my area and I also only want a pay as you go dongle. I am now looking at the 3 dongles but i haven't found a good price for one yet!

Dongles are a poor alternative for home broadband, you should be able to get your talk talk down to £17.50 for line rental, broadband and free calls evening and weekends.

In our area the exchange is not unbundled so we have to pay 12.99 a month for broadband on top of calls and phone line

Thank you for your help I have already done this and my exchange states there is no plans to unbundled the exchange at all

you may have trouble with mobile bb then if you live in the sticks, 3 can be hit and miss so id get a dongle and try it before you go cancelling anything:)

we are on 3 network for mobile phones and the reception is fine so I am presuming that a three dongle would be fine for broadband

possibly but id check with a dongle first if i were you tbh, i found when using it i needed an extension and to have it hanging out the window to get a decent reception as pages would just hang frequently

Possibly not, check before you buy.
