Want/need to get a carbon monoxide detector - anything I need to look out for?

We have a gas boiler that's about 20+ years old according to British Gas and it's time to get a carbon monoxide detector to be on the safe side. I assume all big stores (Homebase, B&Q etc) carry these and they all have to meet some kind of standard? Is there a specific one recommended by experts or will anything from the local Homebase do the trick (hopefully it'll never have to!)?

Cheers crew

Thanks, I would have grabbed one but the BG guy said "Don't buy from us, you can get them cheaper elsewhere" :D

The landlord will end up paying so I'm all that bothered about that though, perhaps I'll go to BG afterall. :)

I would reckon they would all have to meet the same bs standard,i got mine from B&Q when they were doing a special. The other thing is i think with a 20 year old boiler it is time for a new one rather than getting a detector.

Would be nice, but down to the landlord. I assume new boilers are a lot more efficient. We've been having extorionate bills and we use the bare minimum of energy, how big an effect would a new boiler have? Would it only be worth it on a long-term scale?

I got mine from BG direct, think it was £20 odd or somewhere close like that, delivered with 3 days if i recall, 5 year warranty under normal use

Has yours been checked by BG?Probably would only be worth it long term, price of boiler and fitting against savings made.

Yeah had the HomeCare guy come round a week or so ago.

Big up for the replies peeps
