Want to change broadband provider

Hi guys
Wondering if anyone can help me with moving broadband providers!
Currently with BT....£27.99/mth! They have offered to lower to £22.99/mth but Im still not happy considering we also pay £10/mth (+VAT) line rental!
Now, we can't get BE in our area, or the Sky deal, or O2! AOL charge the extra £10 in our area! (can you see where Im going....)!
The only provider that I have found a good deal on are Orange.....any feedback?
Apparantly, broadband & line rental would be £16/mth then £32/mth.
Is Orange broadband any good?
Can anyone suggest another provider that could possibly be available in our area?! The wonders of living in the sticks! lol!

ETA: think we can only get up to 7mb (if thats the right thing?!) here so not too bothered about speed! Up to 8mb is fine!

Try TalkTalk, I have broadband and free calls anytime phoneline (local, national and international) excluding mobiles and premium rate for £20 per month.
I recommend having a look at this if you don't mind speaking to someone in India!

This may help. I think they used to have an availability checker that told you the status of your exchange ie providers enabled and available in your are etc but can't seem to find it. Maybe I dreamt it or saw it on another site!

It *looks* as though i can....would you recommend them?
Looked into Tiscali before & it had an extra charge or something like AOL....doesnt appear to be there now.

I used to be with Tiscali. Things were fine until I needed a refund for an error on their part and I found out their customer service was rubbish!

Broadband and talk is now only £14.99, with Digital TV, Broadband and talk £15.99 for 3 months then £19.99.
Just got the new offers through the post today.
By the way Tiscali is terrible trying to get out of it now. Told me I can get upto 8Mb, true but my line is only capable of 3Mb according to BT, phoned Tiscali and told them this as I was advised by them, they said the person I spoke to must have misunderstood me when they offered the connection, basically, sorry, tough, as theoretically you can receive ''upto'' 8Mb. On this logic ''theoretically'' I can receive 100Mb but........................... Dont do it.

Tiscali = Hammer House Of Customer Service !!!!

Relative of mine found herself disconnected for 2 weeks just recently after TISCALI made an error on her billing. She contacted India to sort the situation and was told she would be back up within 24hrs. Problem sorted, or so she thought.

It took two weeks of arguments over the phone where tiscali continually suggested it was her fault she couldnt get on the t'internet as everything was fine their end (lol)

Anyway in the end she gave them 24hrs to sort it all out or she was going to Orange instead. Amazingly when she got up the very next morning her internet connection was returned.

Now i dont imagine to know how these things work but i very much doubt they sent an engineer out during the dark hours of Sunday night to reconnect her. More likely some idiot in the call centre finally noticed the block on her account and belatedly reconnected her.

MOTTO: Dont touch Tiscali with his, hers, your best friends or practically just anyones. Way too many horror stories about their customer service. You really do get what you pay for with these guys.

When your line is connected 10 days of tests begin and these tests determine what the maximum stable speed your line can support is. This varies by quality of wiring inside and outside your house, the distance to the phone exchange and other things. The final speed can vary between 1/4mbps and 8mbps. Hence 'Up to 8mbps'. What the ISPs are actually selling you is this rate adaptive technology, called ADSLMax and not getting 8mbps isn't a fault, it's just how the technology works.

However, if you feel the ISP didn't make this clear or you talked some tell ill educated salesperson who told you that you would get 8mbps then that seems fair grounds for complaint.

TalkTalk and Tiscali both implement traffic limitations and slow down certain traffic (BBC iPlayer, big downloads) at certain times of the day so I'd avoid them.

As to an ISP recommendation it's hard to make one without knowing what you use the internet for. If you want a connection that can handle a decent amount of home downloading without throttling then the post office seems to be quite good, we've been on them for a couple of months. I am getting the occasional 30 second hang but as I also loose contact with the router I suspect that's my equipment rather than the internet connection.

EDIT: Previously we were with Zen, and though they're expensive it's definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

Good advice, you get what you pay for in general terms with BB, Tiscali, are basically carp, as are many of the other big players.

You are not buying a tin of beans, you are buying a service.

Avoid any that stitch you in to anything over a months contract.

ThinkBroadband is the best place to do a comparison.;-)

yup its a real big shame. There's quite a few exchanges going live for ADSL2+ soon though. Found a site of sites going live soon on google somewhere.

There aren't any that also cover line rental. Actually from what I remember there may have been one but it had something else wrong with it.

did you sort it
