well basically i think tyou jus connect the card to the pc and copy the roms over and play, i think. This is not legal, this can only be legal if you own the actual game thefore you are playing a backup.

its not legal if the "files" you want to download are commercial games.

if you download "homebrew", utilities etc or files you own the originals for then you can legally make backups and use..

The R4 and others of its ilk, use a memory card which you plug into your computer via a USB card or cable.

You then see the memory card as a drive on your PC

You then load a program which allows you to "transfer" the backup Roms of games you own onto the memory card.

You then remove the USB and memory card, plug the mwmory card into the R4.

Plug the R4 into the DS, power on

Choose the ROM/Game you want to play and hey presto.

The R4 etc are available from companies like Dealextreme - see another post on here.

The roms are available from USENET or TORRENT sites - obviously you need to own the originals before you download - else that would be illegal.

i have an M3 and its very simple.

when you get the R4 it will have a disc with it, just load this onto your pc.

then get a micro SD card, and fit it into the USB add-on you get with the R4. you need to copy and paste some files onto it, then youre ready to go, just get some ROMS downloaded, then once extracted they become .nds files. drag onto the micro SD card and youre ready to go.

i use www.nds-roms.com as they are pretty good. only allow 1 DL at a time though, but thats only so eveyone can get a fair share.

but yes, only DL the games you own lol, like me, i have 120 ROMS on my SD cards, if only i could remember where the official games are, i am so forgetful...

You would just need to copy the OS from the supplied CD onto the micro-memory card with the adapter supplied. Then transfer files like you would onto any other storage device from explorer. Being Vista makes no odds.

sorry ive got a question about the ds too.. do i need the R4 thing to play games online with friends? ie if i have a game and a friend has the same game with net play . i can't make heads or tails of it

most games require both players to have a copy of the game.. either original or the r4 backup, some only need one copy depends on the game

and i dont need the r4 thingy? ive bought a ds for my son and im not good with wireless stuff..lol

no the r4 is just a way to store lots of games on one card basically by downloading 'backup roms' from the net. They play the same as original games.

(eg assume your using the r4 legally, you have 20 individual games which obviously require changing cartridge everytime you play a different game... using the r4 you can put all 20 on one cartridge using backup roms and then use the menu to simply select a game rather than changing cartridge)

You can play multiplayer with the original games without anything additional altho in most occasions both players will require a seperate copy of the game.

You can also use the R4 to make your DS into an mp3 player. Mine gets more use as an mp3 player than a games console.
