Hi All,

Just wondering is there anyone kind enough out there that can lend me their softmod kit for the original Xbox. Happy to pay P&P and send back via recorded delivery, otherwise can pick up most places in London.

Many thanks

Being a new member you would probably have to give someone a deposit if they was to agree

I have one but it's a more difficult method to softmod it (It involves taking the Xbox apart and switching a control port for my one) saying that it's easy to do actually if you don't mind opening her up

i will lend you mine, includes memory stick (with save exploits) the adaptor cable & the splinter cell game,
as rediron said, i would need a deposit, and you pay the p&p charges,

If the OP isnt interested can I take you up on the offer? I dont have any sale/trade rep but can promise you ill look after it, I have the Splinter Cell game on order so just need the Memory Card, Action Replay lead and CD really. All I really need is some way of getting the game saves onto the xbox so I can then run the softmod.

Maybe I can borrow it after the OP has had it?

Are you confident in opening an XBox?

Yes, not worried about doing that at all, happy to open it up. The "unlocking the hard drive" technique looks a little tricky to me though from what Ive read if thats your method? Also soldering isnt one of my super powers sadly, hehe. Any advice much appreciated. I was planning originally to use THIS tutorial (hence need for AR).

You shouldn't need to unlock the HD only if your planning on doing a hotswap or put a bigger hard drive in, there's another method to softmod basically;

Required - USB Cable with female end

Cut the USB cable so your left with the Female end and at least 6 inches of cable
Split the end of the cable so you have 4 separate wire, strip the insulation back on those about 1 Cm on each

Open your Xbox, remove one of the two control ports (very easy only two screws and then just disconnect from the motherboard)

You should now have in your hand a control port you'll notice that the wires on this are exactly the same as the USB cable (with the exception of the control port has the extra yellow wire) all you have to do is cut the wires on the control port and then connect the matching colours with the USB cable together and reconect the port to your xbox

Your XBox now has a USB port on it meaning you can use a USB pen drive as a memory card

From here you just need to put the required saves onto that using the action replay software (free download) which you have to slightly hack so it recognizes your USB stick as a memory card (again very easy to do)

From there you can just follow on with the softmod guide that was given

That's the basic version anyway, if you want to do it this way i'll explain fully, another option is instead of using the control port from in the Xbox if you have a spare Xbox control cale you can use that

Thanks for the info. I do have a spare controller actually, dont mind messing with it coz its a 3rd party one thats not very responsive on the buttons so I wont use it. But how easy is the hack to get the AR software to recognise the USB stick as a Memory Card?

Hey russ instead of openeing the xbox up and soldering a usb cable, why not actually mod the controler cable, pretty simple .

I've done it twice before. I have written a thread on how to use the cable after you've made it.

Very easy, you install the Action Replay software

Download a programme called USB view, plug in your memory stick and in there it will have details of your memory stick, you need to write down the idVendor and idProduct

Then go to program files on your pc and locate the action replay folder and open xbreader.inf in wordpad / notepad or whatever

Scroll down to devices and on the first line under devices you will see something that says PID_xxxx and VID_xxxx

Basically replace the xxxx (it will be combination of numbers and letters not xxxx) with the idVendor and idProduct (PID is the product ID VID is the idVendor)

Save your changes and it's done

It actually sounds more difficult than it actually is

Sounds like the cable is the hard bit - the software side is really easy and there is no need for AR as you can use Xplorer360 to access the stick and copy the gamesave over (first it needs to go in the xbox, it will format it to the correct filesystem when you attempt to access it).

Thanks for the info sounds okay RedIron, ill have a look into doing that, many thanks for your help :)

Timothy - you dont have a link to your guide on that controller mod do you?

- sorry to hijack HotDealer1s thread.

I used Xplorer360 too because Windows wouldn't let me update the driver so the pendrive wouldn't work in AR, then I tried Xplorer360 and it worked fine.

Well i've got a link on what to do aftwerwards but I'll add some info on how to make the cable.

Yep I had the similar problems even though I have the official AR kit, so used Xplorer36. It's a jack of all trades, I'll be using again in a few days to upgrade my 360 HD. Much better than AR IMO.

So on one the left hand side you have a USB cable with a female end

On the right side you have a an Xbox wire with just the connection for the Xbox on it

You got a poundland nearby?

If so they do a USB hub for a quid which comes with the cable you need

i have a cable bought from ebay, all ya need to do is plug the flash drive in the cable and the cable to the xbox, then copy the files from the flash drive to the xbox, then load the saves files in splinter cell

i would lend to someone with good feedback here or ask for a deposit, you would also need to cover recorded delivery both ways

after i recieve the goods back, i will offer on to next person.

if anyone wants the flash drive, i can make one up for £6, the cable is £5 via ebay, thats the kit needed to mod ya xbox

i have a female usb cable to hand if anyone wants it to make their own cable (£1 to cover postage)
