Hi Guys,

What it is we have a small bedroom and there is a Wooden Block which takes up a chunk of the room, (Above the stairs)

What can be done with this block in terms of using as much space in the room as possible becuase currently all we do is put a tv on there.

Your advice is much appeciated, if you need a picture of these let me know.

Thanks

It has to stay or you might undermine the integrity of the staircase. Can you build a cupboard / table onto it?

Just realised that we have one of these in the bathroom (which used to be a bedroom when the house was built in 1901). We have a cupboard built around it.

mine has the same although it has a built in wardrobe ontop of mine, though the step still sticks into room, could you not build a wardrobe or some kkind of drawers into it to make use of the dead space

we have one of these in our smallest bedroom.we bought a bed with drawers underneath, and made one of them into a fake drawer with the front on(you'd never know)

If its like im thinking of, it can be turned into part of a platform for a bed with the rest of it (the overhang area) turned into under bed storage like a cabin bed.

I think the OP is describing the staircase anchor point which is about 6 x 6 inch square rather than a step into the room. The length varies, but usually only is around 8 - 9 inch high. I suppose a pic would be helpful.

yes i know, but usually rather than just leaving it they put a step on it, my friend removed the top of hers and buit a unti in ti, so you couldnt see the bottom, they made a fake drawer for the bottom and the rest was a wardrobe

Yikes! I would not have the guts to do that and I have done some crazy things with DIY:w00t:

I have the same in my small room. Ours has been made into a huge cupboard, we put all our books and games etc in there. It makes fantastic storage space. Put a door on it and then its even better for piling stuff in, just close the door on the chaos.

It is for me...

Noticed it is a png file rather than gif. I bet few on here see anything than a green dash (unless they have a png plugin).

Wow,

Thanks for all of the great responses guys!!

I like the idea of the wardrobe/cupboard storage because this would save quite a lot of floor room. - Wouldnt be very ideal having something hiden far back in the corner lol but im sure it would work....

But the next question is how much would this work cost for a professional carpernter too do? a couple of hundred?

And has anyone got a picture of how theres looks with wardrobe storage on the box :) ?
