My credit card failed to make a payment online today. After phoning the bank I was told that it was used to top up Vodafone a few days ago which they apparently think was abnormal because it matched a pattern of fraud.

So, I'm totally unaware of that transaction and have been thinking hard on how my card info was stolen.

The only purchases I made recently with this card were at a train ticket machine, on John Lewis online, ShopTo and for the first time GamePlay.

I was hesitate to post this on here, but since I got to know both ShopTo and Gameplay from this site, I figured it might at least alert some people here to check carefully their statements next time.

Have heard of problems with shopto before

The thing is, I've been using my other card on shopto recently, but it was the first time that I ever bought from GamePlay and with the card in question.

But after doing some dig on google, I haven't found anyone else mentioned gameplay on this issue.

So I really don't know. But quite annoyed and won't be buying from any of those at the moment.

My brother has £700ish taken from his account, not pointing fingers but only place he ordered from was shopto (so i suppose i am), posted a warning on here a couple of weeks ago, they had their security hacked and lost about 20,000 customers credit card details a few weeks ago,

Hence will never order or post a Shopto deal again, first was for £30.00 @ 02 (small tester to see if it would work as Lloyds TSB fraud department told him, then easyjet and Ryanair,

i've had 6 fraudulant transaction with vodaphone, o2, orange and mobileworld. total £400 taken me 6 weeks to get it all back. im with abbey and soon to leave.
Ive used shopto also so might be from there.

cancel your card and check daily for more, cos there will be on the cancelled card once its cancelled. dont ask me why banks let payment clear on cancelled cards but they do!

Seems to be a bit of a pattern going on here, oh and also Shopto watch this forum

Thanks for the headsup guys!

Almost same thing here, though it was money going to Betfair.

I had ordered and Shopto cancelled order, said it was lost!

Remember reading on here that Shopto was hacked into and cc details taken.

nope i've used Additions, Amazon and HMV most recently.

I'm with Barclays to be honest seems to be getting more frequent it'll be my 3rd card in 6 months! this month i've decided not to buy a lot only stuff thats gone out is my direct debits also it may even be a tesco garage i used my card for to buy petrol!

edit: i always get my money back barclays are quick at that!

had similar, had email from shop2 to say my card was being removed from their site due to non activity of account, fine, couple of days later, mobile phone top up and car check charged to my card !!:x

it maybe had nothing to do with shop2, could of been anything but very suspicious !!

Does anyone know how to remove card details from shopto, play.com and gameplay? I know it probably won't really delete all the records from their database, but it's at least what I might be able to do.

Thanks in advance!

Just spoke to my Credit Card company and have had two fraudulent £30 transactions to Vodafone pre-pay.

Its annoying as I'm in the process of booking a US Holiday on that card (extra protection) and she thinks some of the transactions won't go through now.

I think my card details were compromised by Shopto.net - I used this card online with them back in March when purchasing Legends of Wrestling.

From a bit of googling it sounds like their server or details might have been compromised in March 09 - There are clearly loads of people here which have them as a 'CPP - Common Purchase Point' would suggest everyone who used shopto in March/April cancel their old cards and ask for new ones

thats good to know cos with abbey it can take up to a month before they refund, just seems to be where ever you use your cards these days theres a high risk it will be used fraudulanty

Im on my 3rd card is 6 weeks with Abbey

Mine took 6 months with abbey..... I think mine was from a credit check i had with carphone warehouse, never used shopto or gameplay. Also heard that petrol garages are where most fraud happens.

Mine was used to order cabs from addison lee and a telephone transfer to another bank account.

Exactly the same, after getting the new card number (card is still on the way), I checked the statement online: two £30 transactions to Vodafone last week.

I'm with Natwest. They phoned me the afternoon after those two fraudulent transactions but I missed the call which was withheld. three days later when I tried making a payment online, I was told the card was not authorised. Phoned them, had the card cancelled. The refund was paid on the same day and the new card was added to my online banking the next day.

I think those mobile networks should at least take some responsibility on this kind of fraud.

I've had 2 x £30 vodafone top ups taken from mine yesterday ... I used Shopto back in Dec 08
Waiting now for the fraud dept. to get in touch ... will post when they do
#19
used shopto last week and today had a O2(UK)LTD PREPAY £30 charge - fraud.

Not connecting the two but seems a lot of people have mentioned this.
#20
I also used my card with Shopto a couple of weeks ago (I rarely use that particular card online)

Had a phone call from the fraud dept @ Abbey this morning - £2 and £250 transactions were made yesterday without my knowledge - thankfully Abbey declined the transactions, and have now cancelled the card. I cannot be sure this was linked to Shopto, but will no longer be using them, just in case.

I had the same thing happen to me on the 6th June two transactions to Vodafone both £30 phoned Halifax last night and said they would cancel my card then said they couldn't as there was a security lock on my phone banking! So have to go into my local branch with forms of I.D. just hope no more transactions go through before tommorow.

Just to let you know yes I have used Shopto in the past but I won't be anymore even though they ahve turned around and said they are not too blame there are just too many people having this same problem. I've been in touch with Vodafone and they said they would like to investigate this fraud and to send them details of the transactions and to get my bank to get in contact with them.

Also I would like to know how to remove my card details from sites I'm with the likes of Amazon, play, the hut, HMV so I'd like to remove my details from most of those sites.

thanks guys, ive checked my bank account and didnt spot anything, however Im going to be checking daily now.
#23
Count yourselves lucky guys, last year after using my card with these guys i had 2x £500 sums go out of my account for Eurocasino, i'd never had card fraud happen in the previous god knows how many years using the web for purchases, so i'm very suspicious of them.

(note:- if it was them apparantly?)

:)

There is a huge thread on MSE about fraudulent top ups with O2 Mobile's.:x
#25
I think its safe to say shopto are gonna lose alot of business lol

Interesting to read shopto's response on thier forums:

http://forum.shopto.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5278

Basically saying the problem is not at their end

Had my debit card scammed last month, which I only ever used once previously - at Shopto. More than a coincidence, given all the other people who have been scammed after using them. Some people may say "I had no problems" - well neither did I, the fraud happened 18 months after I used them (the bank account was practically dormant, and that time 18 months previous was the only time the card had ever been used).

Had fraudulent debits for Itunes, mobile top-ups for a Danish phone company, and an Easyjet ticket.
