Warning: FS/T scammer about

oldmanhouse Avatar

Just to warn everyone that there's a very suspicious member replying to Wanted threads in the FS/FT section.

People post up a wanted thread and he always seem to have the item in question. Just take a look at his recent posts (link in 1st reply post)

The member's name is: NAMEOFTHE GAME

Thanks for your input.

in all fairness he does seem to have everything lol
[mod][Moderator]#5
Has he actually done anything wrong or is it just suspicion?

I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't have all these items. In the thread where a member was was asking for Red Dead Redemption (PS3 game), this "NAMEOFTHE GAME" guy was asked to provide a picture when he offered a copy of the game for sale. He did so but another member then found he'd just got the image off Google and passed it off as his own.

It's blatant he's just trying it on with as many people as possible. Have reported one of his posts so hopefully the Mods will look into it and take action if necessary.
#8
Looks like ASB is taking steps to ensure he does at least have the items.

Tbh I would be very wary to deal with him now - even if he does post up pics - unless he sent first
#9
Oldmanhouse - good detective work there:D
#10
A lot are games and phones. Entirely possible he does actually have a big collection.
#11
Reported the person in question as it seems to good to be true, when he first signed up, I'm pretty sure ASB took note.

possibly - but still be better to have him send first!

what is suspicious about a member or is this just a broad sweeping statement of guilt by your association to what you think is a scammer?

Do you have any concrete evidence that proves the user is a scammer?

The user in question has no feedback and I believe it is a predominent theme on the FS/FT forum that sellers with little or no feedback should post first therefore isnt the user putting himself in that position to post first and be scammed?

There is nothing suspicious about replying to WTD listings regardless of how many replies have been made. Who are you to determine the number of replies that constitutes suspicion?

I think rather than defame the user and vilify them on the basis of your loose cannon accusations, shouldnt you actually find a user that has actually been scammed by this person then come to the forum with this info?

You're obviously much more trusting that me. I see a guy who just happens to own everything people are requesting, has no feedback, is reluctant to post first (even to members with good feedback) and tried to pass off an image from Google Images as one of his own item. Did you see this thread -- http://www.hotukdeals.com/for-sale-trade/wtd-red-dead-redemption-ps3/727626 ?

I did, but he hasn't got back to me and after looking into his posting history (which I did after making a deal with him) I won't be dealing with him even if he does.

So you agreed a deal, he didn't fulfill, and you haven't updated the thread, but have time to start this one?

There appears to be a new outbreak of scammers all over.

A guy on AVF has just taken a stack of ££ off 2 guys I know. The whole system of paying by BT is a scammers dream with no way of reclaiming the funds. To my mind anyone that insists on BT should be avoided. . .

He hasn't fulfilled yet, I only PMed him about 6:30pm on Friday so it's possible he just hasn't got back to me yet (I haven't checked when he was last on though, so maybe he's just changed his mind..)

BT is easier for the Police to chase than Paypal.
You've been reading to much Ebay propaganda if you think that Paypal is safer.

I usually insist on BT these days and my buyers have had no problems, so please don't tarnish all 'BT-ers' with that brush!

Not many other options except cash on collection, and we all know PP gift is often used on these boards :|

you can always use paypal normal, isnt that now covered for non delivery, although members would prefer to spend no extra pennies than peace of mind, well thats how it seems at times

i asked if anyone had tiger woods 10 & he responded. after a mod asked for an image he decided to send me a PM saying that he actually had 2 tiger woods but one of them one faulty but i could take to game & get the scratches removed. i contacted him back asking to post a pic & offer to post first due to no feedback - no reply since......i smelt a rat!
#37
Can mods take away the facility to use PM's? I think there's a valid reason in this case...for now anyway!

normal paypal?
I wouldn't send paypal gift to someone i didn't know, would rather pay an extra couple of quid to pay his fees to get the protection if needed.

Any advice what to do if payment has been made and items don't turn up?
