If you get one from Apple then it will definitely be genuine.
If you get one from eBay you take your chances.

are you referring to the iPhone or to the warranty? and its not actually from eBay, just used it as an example

iphone/warranty take your pick if you're talking about getting it from eBay.

If you don't actually mean eBay then you will have to clarify another example.

If you just mean other places than Apple, ie play.com or amazon (or anywhere trustworthy) then there will be no difference at all.
#4
No...

Edit: Only thing to be careful of is people reporting the phone stolen and it getting blocked.

You can check online for warranty can't you?

i dunno, but it'd be nice if you could.

You can enter the iPhone serial number here to find out how much warranty is left...

https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

However this will only work if the phone has been registered / activated

I'm looking at buying one (privately) too, however my main concern is... Assuming the Phone is Brand new sealed, can I open it up and put my own 02 Contract Sim in and activate it via iTunes ?

okay fair enough, but it is a private sale and would be very harsh of the guy seeing as he's a family friend

IANAL, but this is what I understand:

From a private seller on Ebay you have - effectively - no warranty or legal redress. Emay / Paypal may wade in, but not guaranteed

From an online store or commercial seler on Ebay you may have some warranty or legal redress, but only if they play ball.

From a UK retailer online or offline you should have a warranty/guarantee PLUS your rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, as amended, which effectively means that the seller (NOT the manufacturer) is liable for repairs.

Your rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 lasts (depending on the nature of what you have bought and how long it would be reasonable to expect it to last) for up to 6 years from date of purchase.

You may have to fight for your rights, they do exist under law.

Considering buying an IPhone. No idea where to start and what company to go for. I have had my mobile number 10yrs and want to keep it......what are the chances?

chances are 100% - just ring your current network provider and ask for a PAC code. when you get the code, ring up O2 and give them the code and they will transfer the number across

Many thanks. But would never buy anything too expensive via EBay, call me old fashioned

So take it no choice other than 02 then. ? Not keen on monthly costs but I suppose unavoidable. Was going to just buy the phone, are there any other options?

User interface changing menus etc. You probably haven't seen it because your phones probably software debranded
#26
Well thanks guys. At least someone my granddaughters age can spin me no yarns now when I go lookin
#27
Orange?:x My old phone was an orange one, which I''d bought secondhand. I successfully debranded and then vowed I'd never get a phone from Orange.

They have a really strange idea that the whole world would like to have the Orange mobile website as their homepage. Not only that, but they then fix the phone so you can't change it!

Going to wait until Vodaphone gets the IPhone
