Warranty claim on OEM Harddisk

just one question with warranty, how do i claim a OEM hard drive under warranty? Imagine the retailer i bought it from is gone out of business.

the problem is manufacturer always asked customer to go back to retailer which i can't in my case.

Any help or suggestion is much appreciated.

I've never had any luck with OEM warranties with manufacturers. I have a load of dead OEM drives under warranty that I can't do anything with so if someone knows how I'd be keen to know.

The retailer under SOG is only liable for 1 year after the sale. Any HDD company, ie WD that offer 3 years warranty, must then fulfill the other 2 years. So im presuming that if the buyer has a valid receipt and can prove the drive is within the warranty period but after the year that the PointOfSale is liable for then its just a case of contacting them. Ive never had any probs with WD but then i only ever use WD drives. Cant speak for other companies.

OEM drives are a different kettle of fish.

What make drive is it please?

Bulk packed drives usually have a 2/3/5year warranty, which can be claimed via the manufacturer's website.

An actual OEM drive, with the computer manufacturers part number labels on it (ie: Western Digital drive that came inside an HP computer) will have no warranty whatsoever with Western Digital. For these all claims must be made via the computer manufacturer/point of purchase.

Not sure on the OP's butI have a variety of makes, I think there's some from each manufacturer but I can't verify it now.

I have done that. the system is telling me to go back to retailer. that's why i am stuck.

As a matter of interest, sorry for intruding on your thread but I have a graphics card that got damaged in a flat move and started overheating a lot to the point now it displays this picture in like 3 colours and with massive bars but he manufaturer has merged with another so doesnt exist.

I assume theres nothing I can do legally.

You can't normally buy OEM drive in shops. The bare drives, without packaging, are bulk packed drives covered with the usual 2/3/5year a warranty.

OEM drives are sold in huge quantities, directly to computer manufacturers to put inside their computers. In an ideal world you and me should never be able to buy one of these warranty-less OEM drives.

Some retailers grab these drives cheaply off computer manufacturers, refurbished or when they have too much stock and not enough demand for new computers. There is no comeback on these drives, other than enforcing SOGA via the point of purchase.

No problem. i had same problem too. my Power color 5830 graphic card (3 yr wty) was faulty and i can't claim under warranty because the company is in Taiwan. After sending a lot of email to PowerColor, they replied "it is a oem card and take it back to shop which i can't". i bought it from ebay private seller about 10 months ago. It is very complicated and almost impossible to claim under oem warranty.

anyway, it was another story of my experience with oem products warranty.
