Warranty on my Hotpoint washing machine

Ok... so have an almost 4 year old Hotpoint washer. I have hated it since the first day we got it, had the engineer out twice when we first got it as it hadn't been set up right.

Anyway afetr about 18months srping round door snapped so gave them a call as bought with 3 year warranty. Yes thats fine they will send someone to mend it and the part would be £38. Heres me thinking i got 3yr cover on it turns out its 3 years free maintanance NOT parts. So told them where to stick it.... Part was only £8 on the net. And they wernt having me supply it and them fitting it.

Anyway since i have had it its always collected for want of a better word.... gunge in the door i'm forever wiping it out... Thought maybe its me with the washing liquid tablets... but no it always does it. Now around the rubber seal of deal its like black and stained (have tried even bleaching it) plus i'm forver having pieces of slimey gunge on my clean washing and having to wash again.
I am forever cleaning it out .... neighbours went like that too.... with the black seal.

Ok.... so i get a letter this morning, saying i have had it almost 4 years and would i like to protect it for another year for £77 so my question is, should i? will they come out and will they see my gunge issue as a problem how its always sticky and gungy in the door and makes my washing dirty, parts and labour is free and a free replacement if it cant be mended.

what do you think? have had about 20 of these letters since i got it, friend said she didnt something simular and got a new drum?

Ring hotpoint directly and ask for a maintenance visit and years warranty for your machine regarding the gunge problem and rubber. they will cover it for parts and labour for monthly payments starting 1 month after engineer visit. simply cancel the warranty and not forgetting your direct debit with your bank the same day engineer calls (after he leaves and fixes prioblems of course) there is a 14 day cooling off clause which isnt clearly stated i found this out at citizens advice, nothing they can do and your machine is repaired or replaced depending on anything else he finds wrong... Happy Days all round !!!

Im pretty sure you wont be able to cancel the policy if you make a claim on it.

You won't plus its fraud.

Is it just me, or does it seem a tad odd to want to extend a warranty that the OP didn't rate in the 1st place?

They have offered a different one to the one she paid for, this one includes parts so would make sense.

No I wouldn't bother myself sounds like the original warranty was from currys or a similar shop.

the "gunge" issue is not a warranty problem - it happens with most machines

so if your stumping up on the hope that they will make the gunge go away fro free then dont bother

you only need a new door seal

I'm pretty sure all Hotpoint machines under 5 years old have a 5 year parts guarantee. You would have to pay labour costs but no parts.
Look up on all your info that came with the machine

"Free Five Year Parts Guarantee
All functional parts are guaranteed for five years. We only ask that these are fitted by our engineers. During the first year, our engineer's time and labour are free. The guarantee does not include items which are consumable such as filters and light bulbs or parts that are cosmetic"

I pay £10 a month and this covers me for three kitchen appliances - parts and repairs etc. so I chose my dishwasher, washing machine and fridge.

My dishwasher broke down, they couldnt fix it - got a brand new much better fancy all singing and dancing one hassle free..............also had them out few times for other problems

Its gives me peace of mind this £10 and saved me a lot of money

(Domestic & General is who I pay)

I bought extended warranty from Argos for 4 years 3 years ago. Am trying to claim on it only to be told that because hotpoint only offers a year warranty its for 3 years as it is actually 2 + 2. People should be aware of this when they purchase either a hotpoint or a warranty from Argos.
