Was I right?

Earlier today I went on a train to come home, handed ticket guard my ticket and she claimed it was invalid as I got on the wrong train(theres 2 trains that go that route) though I made sure I asked for the correct one when I paid and checked the ticket.

The ticket guard wanted me to pay again and not pay the cheap day return price which was £6.50 but pay the full price which was about £18

I refused and got a lot of abuse with the ticket guard threatening to chuck me off, get me arrested, get me removed by force, fine me loads of money.

I was as polite as I could be, I said they were wrong it was the correct ticket and eventually they go on saying im trying to con the company etc

They finally admit its the right ticket but claim /i shouldnt have talked back to them.

I say to them "its not my fault you cant get any as you are rude and ugly and take it out on the customers" Sure I was a bit annoyed and normally polite but that set them off again as they claimed as I was rude to them, they can legally remvoe me from train at next stop.

I got off anyway as I needed some shopping that I forgot and was only 2 stops from where I was going anyway.

Just thinking if I complain should I as I was rude back but I they shouldnt of been so obnoxious.

...and that'll be how to completely blow any chance of an apology. They made a mistake, you got angry, you gave a worker personal abuse that was totally uncalled for. Now, if these billboards I walk past on the way to work are at all true, and it really is a criminal offense to use abusive language towards public-facing workers, you might find it really something of a mistake if you bring your offences to official light, alongside your home address.

In future, if this sort of thing happens, don't get angry. Keep calm, explain your position, and if they refuse to budge from theirs, make them put their reasons in writing, or tell them to repeat them so that you can record them using your phone's memo function. You'll find yourself with a much stronger case if you don't resort to teenage f*cktardery and imply a little pressure on them so that they'd better be sure that they're right - nothing says "I'm going to take this higher" than forcing them to be accountable for what might well be a mistake.

Shows what the world is coming to!

Always are at Fratton. Horrible people, I've had them grab my bike and shirt before. Seems like normal behaviour to me, anywhere there are signs up telling you not to assault staff the staff generally have done it to themselves (except hospital A&E!)

Not acceptable but it does seem normal :(

Just give false details if you've paid for a ticket. Keep an address and postcode for just this purpose :) They'll phone and check some database but say you just moved there - works everytime :)

The confusion comes from taking a push-bike on the train and having to double back on myself to get a shorter journey when I worked in Chichester... always had a valid ticket

OOoooo my cycle airhorn really annoys them too :)
