Any ideas as to problem and likely costs of a repair?

maybe a coin or similar small object has worked it's way inside the drum? Try and get it out, 'cos they can do serious damage

or a bag of spanners?

Probably as starsparkle suggested. Hopefully it is not the bushes.

haven't washed a bra with a wire thats come out have you?? mine took a wire out of one of mine and gobbled it right up...greedy machine! made a right racket.

bra wire mine is the same

When the machine is stopped and with the door open, grab the drum and rock it backwards and forwards to see if it makes a noise if it does it could be the bearings.
:santa:

It is a really loud noise, seems to be louder than a coin or anything like that would make.

hey - check out this forum if you have trouble getting an answer here - it's full of washing machine repair engineers & they helped me out loads when ours broke.

Even to the point of me posting pics up of the inside of my washing machine and asking when the the part was in the picture!

http://www.diynot.com/forums/

mine proved to be terminal in the end but they also helped me choose a decent replacement :)

good luck,
worto.

if the filter is at the front ,open and have a look

It sounds like the bearings have gone to me, I have had them go three times on my machines.
#18
As someone else said, if it's noisy it's usually the bearings. costs about £80 to get repaired.
#19
Thanks for all your help.
I had someone out today it is the bearings and it will cost £80-£90 to repair
Thanks
