DOCUMENTARY: Taking Liberties
On: more4 (166)
Date: Tuesday 6th May 2008 (starting in 1 hour and 29 minutes)
Time: 22:00 to 00:10 (2 hours and 10 minutes long)

The True Stories strand, which showcases the best of both international and domestic feature documentaries, continues with this BAFTA-nominated expose of the shocking truth about the erosion of some of our fundamental civil liberties. This polemical and irreverent film by director, Chris Atkins, takes viewers on a journey through the history of our civil liberties from the Magna Carta - the first major historical legal document which protected individuals against the state - to the present day.

Looks like something not to be missed, however it clashes with Deadliest Catch, which has started again over on Discovery :)

Anyone wanting to watch TV online without using the BBCs effort which only supports windows may want to register with...

http://www.thebox.bz

Which lets you catch up on the majority of UK programmes.

As it works the same way as videoing a TV programme - and in a similar fashion to the BBCs player (only it works) - and you have paid a licence fee to access TV programmes - I doubt there are legality issues.

Why would you be using the BBC iPlayer to watch a program that's on more4?

Talking of government censorship - take a look at...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Armstrong-Jones%2C_Viscount_Linley

...then look at the history - and you will see the entire entry seems to have only been created in the last few days.

Kinda makes you wonder why - dunnit?

The site works for all channels, I used the BBC example as its the best known way of watching recent programmes via the net. So it was an example that most people would know already - but the site show all channels and manage to do this without taxing us each year.

oops got home too late, missed this. however some docu on now 'Jesus Camp' and interesting to note that this docu just unfolds as is. Versus the rubbish 30min-docu-stretched-to-a-limo-1 hour on Channel 4 earlier on Amy Winehouse. That guy (Jacques) rambles on like he loves his own voice which isnt pleasant to hear on long journeys, and repeats the same fact again and again. If he had just let the docu flow and told by people who know Amy without putting his speech for every section (cutaway to his car driving by location 1, 2, 3, and filler images where he's not doing anything in the visual like he's sitting in the car whilst he's narrating the deductions from each encounter). holy sheesh kebab how boring, who da hell edits this is not doing his job! i'm surprised channel 4 puts up with such cac.

watch the first 10 mins here. About 100 police trying to stop a bus load of pensioners going to a 'stop the war' rally in london! Turned them back as there was a face mask found on the coach! It is a real eye opener about what Blair and his cronies did in their first 10 years (and are still doing).

Just finished watching it, I'm amazed how similar the situation is now as with Churchill's time however he had the sense to reinstate our liberties once it was no longer necessary to protect the people. The government now want to take them away unlike Churchill who hated it.
