Watches for men....

Help please!

I don't tend to "do" watches so haven't a clue. Decent watch brands for men.

I don't necessarily mean d&g, police etc, I mean a proper actual watch making brand if that makes sense.

I need a cronograph one if poss but what to look for!

Tag Heuer - best out there.

My hubby has a Tag Heuer, he wears it every day and it has never let him down. He has had it for over 15 years now. He does have other watches but I would say this is his best/favourite.

All depends on how much you want to spend. I would opt for an Omega; the Seamaster is a classic chronograph and a good investment.

You can get them from Goldsmiths, among other places, where can use your Clubcard vouchers for 4 x the value, which is quite a good way of doing it.

no they are not X)

whats the budget?, if you are spending several hundred + then get a self winding automatic movement

Oris make fantastic watches if you are looking to spend 400-1000

Yes they are - speaking from experience ;)

Omega, Rolex & Breitling lose too much time............

Breitling probably the most 'fashionable', imho. Tags, Rolex's... both look quite bland. All great watched though.

seiko make nice watches for a few hundred quid

If you want to spend c. £500 you could also look at Longines which make very nice watches. Unless you want to get a used watch then I would think Omega, Rolex and Panerai are going to be a bit over-budget.

If your going for a £500 budget, I'd recommend Raymond Weil or TW Steel

Ohh it's given me names to get looking at really as I don't have a clue. Well budget hmm not sure was going to say around £500 more maybe for the right one. It's going to be more of a keeper/milestone gift ifyswim.

that sort of price range you'd be looking at Tag Heuer at a stretch. Tissot make some nice watches and they are pretty robust might be worth taking a look, will be more around that £500 mark also

my reccomendation would be Oris on that budget, from my experience 500 quid wont get a decent second hand tag, breitling or omega etc

and i know theres no need to say this to you of all people but i shall anyway, avoid ebay lol
#15
I've never worn a watch in my life, so for this reason i'm out.
#16
I wear a Tissot. wish i could afford a Breitling navitimer or and Omega speedmaster.
I hate Tags the design just screams dull as!

Depends what kind of movement you want, automatic (no battery) / quartz (battery)?

my rolex GMT master, coca cola version is the absolute nuts (automiatic) and previous comment saying there bland geeez what do u want, id say more inconspicuous. its been windsurfing with me for years and still runs and looks like new! Breitlings are garish in my opinion very big, very bulky and very bling! I suppose thats all down to taste.
bottom line....quartz are more reliable than automatics no matter what anyone says, automatics tho in my opinion are works of art especially if you`re lucky enough to see the workings inside of a rolex, then you`ll know why. automatics also need servicing and thats not cheap, where as a new battery is and can be done by yourself.

for a sensible priced watch you cant go wrong with either seiko or maybe invicta if you like the bigger style watches

also if you are looking to spend a bit of money on one my advice would be to make sure it has a sapphire glass face and not a mineral one. (sapphire`s very hard to scratch)

I have a Seiko Kinetic (self winding) - it cost approx £300 when I bought it and I've had it for about 15 years now. It's lasted an active Army life and constant outdoor activities. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but it's the best watch I've ever had.

the kinetics have a capacitor in them very much like a battery, i think youve been very luck for it to last sooo long, these are expensive to replace

if you are buying an expensive watch, buy it from a high street shop keep well clear of internet sites as this could well end in tears!!

thats why you`re probably late for everything as u never know what time it is!
#27
does it have to be new?

a used vintage rolex costs about the same as a new Tag and has much more character to it and is a bit different.....
