Watching downloaded videos on TV..... help!

I'm looking for something to hook up to my TV to watch downloaded video files.

I was thinking about the Acer Revo. Perfect because it has HDMI to plug straight into the TV.

However I'm wondering if its the best option, or if there's anything better? I'm concerned the Revo isn't powerful enough to play Divx files....

Its not always illegal to down load films.

don't think insinuating someone is a criminal is very fair.

got one. It's not fantastic in all honesty. Especially bad for long files if you want to start watching from halfway through. Plus I like the idea of being able to watch youtube/iPlayer etc as well as an easy way to put on photo slideshows

That's good to know. I was just looking into it more and discovered Boxee software on the internet too. Don't know what it does but its got good reviews!

I use an Xtreamer which connects to the host computer via ethernet and can play most types of downloads. I see people are recommending DIVX capable DVD players but its unlikely your downloads are in DIVX form. They are more likely to be AVI, MPG ot MKV files encoded with something other than DIVX.

The manufacturer site is at http://www.xtreamer.net/

The UK dealer is TranquilPC (which is where I got mine) http://www.thextreamer.com/

Don't get a PS3 they absolutely such as media players. So fussy about what they play. I use an old xbox wit XBMC as already suggested.

Never had a problem playing anything on my PS3 except matroska
