Obviously upset at not being broken into during the riots.

James Daunt hates Amazon - he's been complaining about Amazon's tax avoidance (amongst other things) for months - for them to now offer the Kindle is a big u-turn.........

This is what he said about them in December
Daunt makes no bones about his dislike of Amazon. "They never struck me as being a sort of business in the consumer's interest. They're a ruthless, money-making devil."

Waterstones have missed a big opportunity by not offering re-badged Nooks....you can buy a kindle anywhere and people won't pay Waterstones prices

Its also strange how yesterdays observor were reporting how Daunt was saying their ebook reader would be "different from Amazon - and better"

Too little too late I fear.

As gari says why would anyone go there for one over the numerous other retailers. A nook would have at least been unique

I actually like our Waterstones. It's a nice bookshop, has a costa coffee inside so always smells good, very good selection of books, a great kids section with play area. It really is one of the best shops in town, it's just a shame it's so expensive and I don't buy books anymore.

All that will happen is that Waterstones will become a showroom to display the Kindle. No-one will buy ebooks from Waterstones as there won't be any point - be cheaper and simpler to buy direct from Amazon - so Waterstones might as well kill their ebook store.

Sony are grossly overpriced (both their ereaders and ebooks) so you can write them off. Looks like the e-ink readers will be a fight between Kobo and Amazon.
