we just bought our first tent

we just bought our first tent, we had been looking for a while and finally decided on the khyam quebec 8 dlx it did cost £299 but it had every thing we were looking for. we have put it up one in the garden to test it and seeing as we are not experienced campers we were pleased it only took 40 mins, it took 40 mins to take down too including fitting it into the bags which i thought was going to be impossible, should be able to cut the time down a bit when we are used to it. i posted a tread on here a few weeks ago when deciding what tent to go for and just wanted to thank every one for there reply's . cant wait to go away with it in 3 weeks time.

A lot of people first time camping and spending ridiculous amounts on the tent it self, crazy! might as well go abroad.

I would be tempted to put the tent up in the garden one more time, as when you come to put it up for real it may be windy or raining & you will be grateful for every bit of putting up/taking down experience you have!

well done, i love camping used to go when i was a kid not sure if the reality will be the same as an adult but luckly i know someone who has a tent we can borrow so hopefully we will go in a few weeks time. how long are you going away for your first time? we only live 30mins away from the seaside so are just going to stay there for 1 night to see how it goes. Have a 3 year old so only dare risk 1-2 nights as not sure how we will get on.

The 3 year old will love it - just treat it as a big adventure, maybe create a bit of a story around it.

thanks im sure he will just hope he sleeps ok at night cause hes not good at getting to sleep at home! the only thing i am worried about is the putting and taking down of the tent. i know that will take the two of us and as you know 3 year olds need to be kept an eye on all the times which will be hard to do whilst we are both concentrating on the tent, maybe i will leave him (son that is - not OH!) in the car with some toys while we put up tent.

You can always get him to 'help' e.g. by holding the guy ropes while you're both putting up the tent, and/or get him to hold the peg bag for you & pass you the pegs as & when you need them.

In all honesty, Ebay is a great bet for tents. Like exercise bikes they are bought and used 2 or 3 times and then available to buy at 1/2 price ;o)
