If it's a simple website you don't need server side help.

HTML/CSS maybe a little JS and you're done.

yeah you are right.

I can help with JavaScript checks. i'll post a few common ones...

just send the value of what you want to check and the error you want to display and it will do the rest.

my exams finish on the 15th so i can help for about 2weeks after that.

this is a good site for css.. i used the one in the link for my final yr project.

CODE FOR PAYPAL BUTTON GOES HERE

Save it as 'index.html', open it with Notepad, ignore everything between the (unless you want to change the layout and stuff), change the text as desired. For the photo, change where it says "insertphotohere.jpg" to the filename of a good photograph, and upload both index.html and the photograph to the root of the webspace.

For the paypal code, set up an account (if you haven't already done so), and make your way over to https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_wp-standard-overview to get a button and payment system setup. It's all free, and should be reasonably simple.

It's a very, very basic site, but it gets the message across, needs zero maintainance, wil run on any webhosting service, can be set up in minutes, and ought to do the job fine. Althought he colours are probably a bit ****.

not sure about paypal seen as they can freeze your account at anytime. i'd suggest using google checkout.

just got a bit of work to do then i'll have a look at setting it up and copying the html code above. thanks dxx

Problem with Paypal though is it charges. Anyone know if they do make exceptions as this is 'charitable' or would this need to be a registered charity?

If people think it will cost, they won't donate as much or at all
#13
thanks so much guys
i cant thank u enough its so kind of u all!

im of to see annmarie now (luciannas mum) so will reply x

Paypal is easy as is google checkout. I havent had probs with paypal but neither have I with Google.

As daft as it sounds, make sure you check the legal and tax implications. It one thing a few people donating some cash, but if this takes off, then Tax OFfice get interested very fast. You may need to setup a trust and pay anything out of that. Charity status would be nice as you could get gift aid then when people donate.

My skills are HTML, XML PHP and MySQL. So far I have 30 odd sites to my name including some childrens and Scout org sites - if I can help alittle then say.

As a confirmed pessimist and at risk of being beaten up, is there a way that you can validate this exercise? By that I mean that people will want to know that they are donating to a genuine cause - this is how charity status can help. Its one thing when a local community is involved, but this is potentially global once its on the web. Sorry to be boring or rude but these are praticalities which are best thought of ahead of time (speaking from experience). :-)

just found this on the charity commissions website..
"I want to commemorate someone by setting up a charity in their name
Instead of setting up a new charity, think about creating a separate, named fund within an existing charity; this may be just as effective as creating a new charity."
You can look for existing charities via the register of charities or you can telephone Charity Commission Direct on 0845 300 0218.

You may be able to do this, use their website/payment facilites to get donations (still linking from HUKD etc) and use that to pay expenses etc to the family. Also with the charity being registered, taxpayers can donate and GiftAid it (meaning you get more money from the tax man with every £1 they donate).

It would also deal with my previously raised issue and add instant advertisement etc to the cause.

That site for donoting to registered charities only and not to collect money for yourself or on behalf of someone else, so I am pretty sure you wouldn't be able to use it for the purpose people are wanting to on here.

oh sorry just remebered someone using this place when raising money for similar thing

we have picked a poem

God looked around his garden,
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this Earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never,
Get well on Earth again.

He saw that the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, "Peace by Thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home
#31
That's lovely, I'm crying.
#32
I'll put the poem on sometime today for you :)

Good on you for setting the site up ... but ....
if you are aimming to use this site to enable people to donate you need to concentrate on having that functionality otherwise the time will have gone and people will have moved on.
