Hi Guys

Trying to add a form (email contact) to my website, but when i test it, it goes into Outlook. I was under the impression that the from would send the mail direct to the address setup!?

I am almost certain it uses your default email client
banned#2
It does with the correct script!

I dont trust the form I use, so cant help you there ATM.

But yes, the "email" is sent from the website to the email address of your chosing. (Presumably your own!)

But thats where is goes wrong...

By using the form, it opens my email client and then I have to click send?

I thought the whole idea of using a email form on a website is so that you dont have to use an email client like Outlook

That IS what I am describing. Outlook doesnt come into it. The form is on the site. The email is sent direct from the site using php scripts.

Better still, if you have working scripts, can you just PM them? (Or email)

The one I am using on the school site, appears to work randomly. Quite often, I get an email with no content (and probably an angry individual on the other end that thinks Im ignoring them!)

The one on the charity site, seems to be fine.

But they are both the same!!!!!! Both servers are located in the UK also!

In fact, try out the one on the school site to "webmaster" and see if it works for you!

Edit..... In fact the script is hosted in the US with dreamhost so not UK hosted.

Heres the form.

I just tried it myself.... and the email arrived fine. Really dont understand why I keep getting blank emails!

does both servers have sendmail activated to use it ? you need php sendmail activated or fsockopen to use it

it might be a problem with the mail server ?

On an aside. You use dreamweaver dont you?

Have you ever exported a site from one copy of dreamweaver to another on a different machine? Is it always successful and easy to do? I need to hand over a site to someone and Im a bit worried it may go pear shaped! Its template driven, so it really needs to be 100%!

No, its actually part of the script.

Its on another machine otherwise I'd just copy and paste the code.

It might be carp to you, but it wasn't expensive!:p

I could never remember all the tags and whilst its a lazymans tool, I've never claimed not to be lazy! Besides, how would you make sitewide changes (outside of CSS) that you want to be applied to each and every page? That site has about 1000 pages! I wouldnt fancy doing that by hand!

Yeh, there is an import export facility. Just never used it - hence why I asked!

Heh, I said outside CSS!:p

Eg your menu structure is adding a further item. Yes I know its possible to use CSS for the menu..... but it doesnt cover everything.

That looks good on paper, until you actually use it. I have!

For some reason, it fails to send the majority of formed emails and classifies them as spam. I used it on a site www.geteven.biz (its probably still there) and it probably only delivered about 50 mails out of about 300.

It does record the attempted mail, but you cannot access the "spammed" email and therefore it becomes lost.

that methid saves me hours of typing & my pages are all identical ;-)

yeah its gotta be the mail server that handles it, what i can tell, the script works fine, its gotta be the mail server thats not sending the emails properly & inserting the email address

I think youve missed the point!

You are using your template to create a new page (just as you would in dreamweaver), but your client now wants to to add something ie a new js file, which they want on all new pages as well as the old ones. With dreamweaver that would be a simple one click operation. Unless Ive missunderstood what you mean here, you'd have to edit every html file to add this additional line?

Jesus! All you need to do is copy and paste like Ive said! It really isnt rocket science!

The code I have sent is all you need.

The htm file is your form file - you need to point the link to this fiile. All the other files need to be in the same folder. The only part you will need to edit now, is to put your own logo in (Since you wont want the schools one, I didnt send it.)

Just cut and paste everything into notepad if you like (and name them as I said) . It doesnt matter what you use. Just dont miss out any of the code!

please!!!? :whistling:

What is the problem? You do know how to cut an paste dont you?

Just copy the lines of code in each PM and create a file named as instructed in each PM. Thats it.

Then upload the files to whatever directory you want to use and create a link on your site to foldername/phmailer.htm

You now have a working form. As said, the only thing you need to do is add an image called logo.

You dont need to understand the code, just copy it!
