Website to upload details on gadgets incase they are ever stolen.

This week we had a lecture from a safety police officer. He mentioned a website which allowed you to upload details of all your gadgets including serial numbers, brand, model number etc, so if your items were ever stolen you could give the details to the police immediately.
Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the website so if anyone knows what it is then please tell me.

Thank-you

Are these websites not just set up by criminals so they can find out what gadgets people have and where they live...then simply rob them?

Why not just use the spreadsheet in google docs, at least that way its provided and hosted by a reputable firm.
