I have 2 halves of a website (including their own URLs) that make up one site (if that makes sense)

how do I get them both to look at each other / one site if I was to look "google" it, and what would I search on.

You gotta be carefull here, Google would possibly see your 2 different halves as a duplicate and possibly blacklist 1 if not both. Maybe you could just concentrate on one as the primary landing half (from google etc) do your SEO on the half and your visitors will follow the links to all parts but you would need to use your robots.txt and or robots meta tags to tell them to ignore the other half to avoid confusion (getting Blacklisted).

not sure if I've explained it right..

Website A promotes say, Dogs
Website B promotes say, Cats

Both are about the same service ( pet care ) ... but are two different sites, although 1 service, ran by one company!

Never heard of websites pointing at each other but if its for the use as exampled above then it shouldn't be too hard to sort out should it? Fab idea though.

Could a sitemap not help? I'm not sure if you can have urls from different locations within one sitemap but if that is an ok thing to do (i've often wondered myself) then that might make google crawl both and recognize a link?

Cool, I think I get the gist now: you have two websites each for contrasting services just for the same company or overall service?
If this is so or close I wouldn't worry too much, any links on your sites can be for just other pages on the site or for any other site, so you could just use buttons and/or text links.
As for Google etc. concentrate on each sites unique aspect in your keywords and descriptions but you can include in both your main identity/ company name so if for example either the dog or cat service was searched for both would boost the identity (Disco pet care) rankings so when just the company name (Disco pet care) was searched for both sites would(should) rank high.
Make sense? :?

It will be just down to making sure you try enhancing your keywords and site content to benefit each site and your combined services.
When you get there or if you already have the sites designed offline, let us know and we can advise on what we think you need. SEO is something I've looked into quite a bit and so far I'm winning and I'm happy to help.

how about making them both have different url but host them both under the same name

e.g http:// dogs. mysite.com and http:// cats . mysite.com

have the urls redirect to the sites, e.g. www.mydogs.com goes to the dogs.mysite.com and www.mycats.com goes to cats.mysite.com

use meta tags in both the sites so that gogle picks them up seperatly,

you will need to check if your domain host accepts that sort of domain address......

the tips i gave is used by most big websites to split there site into smaller sites. e.g hosting companies will give you a web address http://yourdomain.myfreehost.com

in english now please. lol. my two addresses are :

pa-4-paws.co.uk
pa-4-people.co.uk (i think thats what shes bought)
pa4paws.co.uk (was bought as well, to stop anyone else having the same idea - although now being used)

both are PA services for animals and people (ie: in a nutshell, people with pets who are too busy working to do anything else)

hence 2 sites, so whats the best way to go about this. I use 1and1.co.uk for my hosting, and have loads of space.

Design a basic simple page which lets people know what's coming and put it up, it will show instead.
Although sometimes while a domain name and space are being set up this sorta thing can be visible.
