Hi, it's been a tough old day.

My wee Gran aged 88 was taken into hospital today. She has end stage Dementia and hasn't a clue why she's not in her own bed tonight.

Thoughts and prayers gratefully received.

Have the same with my great aunt.......it's quite sad to see but she refuses to go into a home even though she's almost burned the house down a few times. My cousin is at his wits end. Hope all goes well with your gran

Dementia is one of the worst things in the universe to live with - currently in a hellhole situation at home living with my gran with dementia. To say we are at our wits end is a vast understatement... but life goes on (very VERY difficultly I might add).

Best wishes and all that.

Just a thought for your mum or dad (whomever side the gran is from)

as its their mum, can you look after them a bit more than usual? i know its hard on you, but harder on your mum or dad

my step-father is suffering from dementia, i know how much it sucks

That is really sad Choc and really when it has got to that stage I would imagine the decision has got to be taken out of her hands and the family get her into a home. We had the same situation with my gran - well not nearly burning her house down -but going out in middle of night with her nightie on saying she was wanting to go home, calling 999 saying she was in a strange house and needed help - was just awful.

OP my thoughts are with you and take comfort that you gran for now is being well looked after:)

its quite hard and my cousin gave up work to care for her full time but now he's getting depressed but still says he can cope and has been given power of attorney so my aunts and mum can't do anything but help when they visit :-(

I feel that if it was my mum i would make her live with me.......but she tells me she doesn't want to

Doesnt matter that he has been given POA - if things have reached that stage something should be done and doctors informed. I actually moved into my grans (this is years back - 13/14yrs ago) as we so didnt want her to go into a home - but OMG it was soooo hard, so I can see why ur cousin is down in the dumps just now as very draining. We lasted 2 years looking after her but knew the time had come for a home when she was constantly calling 999 and also stopped knowing who I was - was awful and still makes me cry thinking back. She has since passed away but lived for 6 years in a lovely nursing home, safe and sound. Best wishes with it all as I know what u r all going through.

OP sorry to have taken this slightly off subject - and once again hope things get a little easier for u all and your Gran is okay

Thanks everyone. I really do appreciate it. Prayers in numbers and all that.....hope it works!

It's my mum's mum. The thing is it's my grandpa who's her full time carer! He's 89 in July, partially blind, heart condition, arthritis......The poor wee soul only lives for her. He refuses to move to a care home. Last year I managed to find one who could accommodate them in a room together and he'd be able to go in and out when he pleased. He wouldn't go!!! His concern is that if Gran passed away whilst in the care home, he'd be stuck there as he would have given up his right to his Housing Association flat.
I'm down 3 times a week and take him out shopping when Gran's at her wee club. My mum's there twice a week and they have a 'tuck-in' service 7 days a week. But the whole thing is so sad and as we all live longer it's a situation many of us shall find ourselves in.

My thoughts are with you.
One of my biggest fears is one or both of my parents gets Dementia or Alzheimers, I saw my Granny deteriorate and it was so sad, a horrible way to end a wonderful life.
My grandfather on the other hand just knew his time was up, had written a birthday card to my mum 2 months early, driven his scooter to the doctors, went to the hospital, had a day to say his goodbyes and slipped away peacefully with a smile on his face and family around him, I wish it was always as peaceful as that.

Do not underestimate the power of prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 simply says 'pray continually'

and

1 John 5:14-15 says 'This is the confidence that we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him.'

Thought with tomorrow being Sunday, it was the perfect time to ask for a little help.

Thanks again

No offence taken. (would take more than that - I'm from Glasgow!)
This is the only Gran & Grandpa I have left and see them all the time. I have 4 kids and they all adore them. When the ambulance arrived for Gran today, Grandpa kept telling the paramedics that this was his 4 great-grandchildren and they are perfect in every way! Made me well up if I'm honest.

If I had to buy everything on this site I had voted 'hot' for, I'd need a much larger house!
