Weird error with Windows Photo Gallery

Hi guys,

Looking for a little help with a friend's pc. He's using Windows photo gallery and it works fine until he wants to display a picture full screen (think it then converts to picture and fax viewer?). It seems to load ok but never displays the picture.

He's therefore using some other windows program to display pictures but from that it won't print, it just says there's been the following error but there is no error message displayed.

I've tried installing Windows LIVE Photo Gallery and that has exactly the same problem, so I'm guessing the problem is somewhere deep in windows and a full re-install is the only likely way to get rid of it?

On that note I assume an alternative would be a better idea, any good free alternatives to photo gallery? He'll want a photo gallery that'll allow him to display, organise and print his photos whilst offering him a little bit of simple editing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

To add, he is able to display pictures and print them using Serif so the problem is with certain bits of Windows as opposed to his printer for example.

Has he got a page file ? If not get one or try increasing it if set to less than say 1024

2gb virtual memory I believe.

That does remind me though, it did say at one point about not enough memory, but I checked task manager and there was loads left. 2gb normal memory too.

Cheers, but not gonna help I'm afraid. Just trying Picasa at the moment and will try it on his pc if it looks any good. Hopefully won't use the same bit of windows that isn't working.

why 3584? the pictures I'm trying to open are quite small, nothing like the 4MB+ photos on my pc which open fine with the same amount of ram.

Think you mentioned fax viewer, or scanned images these are 300meg + quite often on high settings and of old these would eat up page files for breakfast if too low then error out in editing/viewing software
