today, the driver has come back with a huge crack on his windowscreen, claiming this also happened yesterday but he has only just noticed it!!!
4 of us went to look at the chip yesterday and none of us noticed this huge crack, basically he is now trying to get a new windowscreen out of us, also, there is no proof it was my lad who threw the stone (my lad is denying it, but could be lying)
what can i do????

Do nothing. He can't prove you have done anything wrong. He should have sorted it before it turned into a crack.

You can stand over there and do nothing...the insurance will cover it like he said :)

I'd not be paying for his new windscreen, but I'd deffo be **** the boy! (If there was ANY chance he was throwing stones at or near cars...)

It's entirely feasible that the crack appeared as a result of the chip. His insurance will also cover a new screen, but he will have an excess to pay.

Just vomit in the back of his cab!

And I'd be ripping your boy a new one based on the fact that he "may be lying" and could have been throwing stones not only near cars but anywhere.

But Joe le Taxi can sing for his dough

the chip hasnt turned into a crack, the chip is on the passenger side, but this huge crack is on the drivers side...........the guy said yesterday that only 1 stone hit the car, but now there is 2 seperate chip/cracks he is claiming happened at the same time, my boy has been punished! grounded for a week, with no ds, no dvd player and no tele in his room!

I'd have grounded him for 2 weeks, i mean what kind of boy throws stones.....bricks are what should be thrown!

What would you do if it was your car, personally, i think you and the other parents should club together and offer at least cover the excess.
What grounds does this bloke have legally?

It's not fair that he has to fork out for something your children have done. As all kids were doing it then you cant tell who threw the breaking stone. Grow up and accept that your child has done wrong, pay for the excess and im pretty su next time he is out throwing stones you will keep a better eye on him.
If it was my child I'd take something off him to sell and cover the damage, yes he is only 6 but still old enough to know it's wrong and they have to learn the consequences of their actions. It's a good lesson for later life.

Wow, why dont we just hang your boy from the nearest lampost?

Punishing him because "he may be lying" dimebars? seems fair.

OP, you can bring your child up how you wish. But you have posted on here so will now give you my opinion. Yes he may be lying but doing all that too him seems a bit harsh if you don't know he has done anything wrong.

No one heard of innocent until proven guilty?

lets say he isn't lying, imagine how he must be feeling?

I also have a 6 year old, so know what they can be like, though mine is a little princess :)

what would he do with a dvd player without the tv anyway? just askin..lol

As for the incident, lots of kids throw stones and need to learn fast not to do it, personally i would offer to pay for the insurance excess. then sale the boys ds or whatever to pay for the damage, it is a good lesson for them to learn!

But, of course, u need to make sure it was him! , maybe quiz him a bit? perhaps it was someone else, kids are usually quite easy to read or trick into giving you the truth.

I'd be thinking "oh ****, I better not throw stones if that's the punishment I get for possibly throwing them"

guilty by association, if someone else threw it, then maybe should be encouraged to not hang around with troublemakers.

when i was young a group of us went into a store and unknown to me a few of the kids were stealing things, they were caught and even though i didn't steal anything, i received the same punishment, and rightly so, i guess it depends how u want to bring up your kids.

some parents wrap them in cotton wool and wonder why they never learn

this is exactly my point, none of use did notice the crack, and we do think he is lying about it, which is why im asking what to do, as i was willing to pay for the chip until the company told me insurance willc over it, but now the driver has changed his story and is trying to get a full new windowscreen from me.

all the kids would of been throwing stones, but, there is nothing to say that the stone that hit the car came from my childs hand, but, all the other kids pointed the finger at him

Shock?

Many years ago I parked on an industrial estate to go for a job interview. Got back to the car, got in and noticed my windscreen was smashed. Thought ******** and drove to the nearest windscreen place. Bloke comes out, gives me a price then says 'Did they cave in both doors as well?'. I hadn't even noticed and believe me, it WAS noticeable, had to open them with a scaffold bar they were that far pushed in.

So.. can happen.

Car doors are pretty big too X) I would imagine everybody was concentrating on the chip and not examining the rest of the screen, as that was the area he was moaning about at the time. Not saying thats how it actually happened, just offering the possibility. He may not have come straight back as he was on a job. Who knows. Cracks don't always appear straight away anyway, does seem a bit of a coincidence though, 2 windscreeen incidents in 24 hours :{

Doesn't matter which stone did the damage, they were all throwing stones. I would be so ashamed of my kids doing that - it could cause an accident. If I ever did catch them I would punish them (as you have) but then club together with the other parents to put the damage right, if the other parents aren't prepared to do that they're clearly scum so wouldn't want my kids associating with them.
The taxi driver doesn't sound to be a cheating a-hole, since he initially said not to pay, he'd get it on insurance, he could've asked for cash.

It's not about legalities, but what is morally right.
#39
the taxi driver never said not to pay, its a hired car from the taxi firm, it was the actual manager of the firm who said not to pay, not the driver

I think all the parents of the kids throwing stones should pay for a new windscreen. That is the very least you could do.Kids should not be out throwing stones especially near cars. They could have caused a crash.
