"A threat to kidnap and murder a serving West Midlands police officer led to a security alert being issued to staff, the BBC understands.

The force has confirmed counter-terror officers are investigating an "anonymous but credible" tip-off.

Officers have been urged to take extra precautions, including not wearing uniform during journeys to and from work.

West Midlands Police said it had "implemented additional security measures" after obtaining the information, but the force declined to confirm the exact nature of the threat."

Chilling news.

I don't think Kermit and co. would ever harm anyone.

Thankfully not those muppets, not all childhood heroes are criminals.

Are you sure it wasn't the Sesame street crew and not the muppets?

I'd imagine he doesn't have what it takes to Kermit a crime.

I am sure there's a lot of regular police officers who feel a bit safer now they caught someone.
I cant imagine doing a job with that hanging over your head.

Simple, mobilize the armed forces to show their presence by patrolling soldiers around
major cities like Birmingham, London etc..Shows any idiots who think they can terrorize
the consequences if they step out of line.

Perhaps a nice military parade too?

Or just offer them more targets.
Can the Army even legally do anything if they were out patrolling the streets?

Better protection for police by way of body armour. More police on the streets, not less. More CCTV on the streets and anyone found guilty of attacking an on duty police officer to be given double the sentence that an assault on a civilian would get.

The police do a job that many of us would not do and deserve our support.

West Midlands Police death threat 'not credible'

A threat to kidnap and murder a serving police officer was "not credible", a force has said.

On Tuesday West Midlands Police said counter-terrorism officers had received a tip-off that staff were in danger.

A 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the call has since been eliminated from inquiries.

The force said its assessment was that the call "was not terrorist related or a credible kidnap threat".

Inquiries into the original call are continuing and West Midlands Police said the man would remain in custody in connection with "immigration matters".

I think it should work both ways.
If a civilian should get a doubled sentence, so should any police officers committing a crime.
