I agree. If he wasnt under the influence that may have been different. But im sure we have all done things we regret when being drunk. im sure he learnt his lesson and is sorry
#5
Totally disagree, yes I've been that drunk to pee in the street but he knew exactly where he was doing it.

Personally I'd sit him down for a busy Saturday in the local shopping centre with a big sign showing what he had done.
#6
Pfft, he deserves everything he gets, drunk or not drunk its disrespectful - end of!

Don't quite see the big deal myself.

I remember Ozzy Osbourne and his story about peeing on the Alamo - most people seem to find that funny.

I await this guy being hailed as a national treasure.

Its no worse than stealing imo, both should be punishable by castration

Lol!!!

250 hours community service is a good punishment at least make the silly boy do something useful for the Charity he is appointed to, this moment of silliness may open up other opportunities in his life and make a mistake guide him to a different path in life, for the better, who knows.

"Most of Sheffield...."

You the voice of t'north, are you?

Obviously you wouldn't be saying that if a member of your family died and their name was engraved on the memorial......

Why? It doesn't diminish the memory of that person in anyway.

We've all at one point been caught short. Make him clean it and spare me the righteous outrage:thumbsup:

Hmm, I think the worst thing I've done when being drunk is stuff like falling into a canal, falling into a bush and falling asleep for the night.

At what point does 'urinating over a war memorial' seem like a good/funny idea. Obviously not brought up with morals or respect.
#19
Personally I think its fair. Under alcohol, noone can think 100% straight. Sure noone forced him to drink, but in uni, someone will be overdrunk and in this case, its him.
Plus the fact that he is shamed all over UK is a large punishment.

I think he already learnt his lesson the next day after he knew (or if i was in his shoes, i would anyway). I strangely hope that he can pick himself up so that he can return to his degree since university is something to be cherished for life.

Bit disrespectful to the person who lovingly planted and tended the bush.

The judge did say
"I have never seen anyone more contrite for what has happened nor one who regrets more the hurt and distress he has caused. "

Yeah, but whoever planted the bush didn't die in a war did they?

Have some sense :whistling:
#24
I agree it outrages public decency, but I think no more than peeing on the seats at the bus stop or in the play area, where children are going to sit and play in the day. I'm all for community punishment, but it has to be the same for the same 'crime'. Peeing in public, not spot specific. Anywhere else and no one would have said a word. He was drunk, and very unlucky. (I'm not saying he doesn't deserve his 250 hours, just that a lot more people probably do, than actually get it - because not enough people find it distressing enough to create uproar.)
#25
I think some of the goons on here genuinely think it isnt that bad to **** up a war memorial, Im sure in the opinion of many of the families of the people who died it would be similar to doing it on a grave. It's about respect, something a lot of these half-bakes have no semblance of. It's a shame really.

How do you know? Just after planting the bush, they might have signed up for the army, got shipped off to Iraq and blown to smitherines! Don't be so presumtious! :w00t:

.....right, but the bush he planted isn't in memory of people fighting for British Forces, at least come back with a good argument.

As Insomniac has said very well, its a matter of disrespect, these memorials aren't placed on the corners of streets, he's obviously gone out of his way to pee on the memorial, also, what kind of person takes pictures of their mates urinating?

The students obviously thought it was a 'laugh'!

I'm coming across as angry because I've been in the forces and know what it takes. Its a joke that people sympathise with him!

Of course they have, but trust me, nothing as disrespectful as urinating on a memorial, they would be severly punished - and thats before the police/court have dealt with him.

I think this might be a worthy contender.
