What a Waste!

4 days before xmas I did my BIG shop to last over the festive period......totally forgot that I had put a big box of goodies in the shed as back up supply.
Just been to retrieve the box and found 6 boxes of mince pies Best Before date 29th Dec, 4 boxes apple pies BB date 1st Jan and 2 boxes of apple/blckcurrant pies BB date 29th Dec!
Would you still eat them?
luckily the rest of the food has longer BB dates............but boy, what a waste of food!

deffinately, they are best before dates, not use before. so long as they look alright go for it:)
It is not like they are meat products so it will be fine.
#2
I dont eat them but the OH does......might put them in a cake tin, hopefully he wont realise....unless he gets a dicky tummy :)
#3
They will be fine, they have to put a date on to cover themselves, but with all those additives and e numbers and sugars they will keep.
#4
with the amount of sugar in them things they will be fine, not that I would ever recommend eating them in the first place....

The 'Best Before' and 'Use By' stamps are really only there is cover the manufacturer from lawsuits just in case spme does get food poisoning. I eat food well after these dates, as long as it is not the fresh bakery stuff, and never had a problem. I remember several years ago there was a news item where someone tucked into canned meat from the 40s. With all the preservatives in our food today I don't think a few days matters :)

Some foods are better for eating passed their sell by date - one of the worst is jaffa cakes.Never buy them as they 'expire' date-wise.

Stuff like mince/apple pies are one of those you take a risk on if you fancy - imo.

I'd give yours a go :)

Haha:oops:

I think you got the wrong end of the stick.

Tell you what are really horrible - when you buy a packet of crisps and unknown to you there's a lil hole in the bag.

Stale crisps make me angry:x

If he won't have 'em, send them my way.

My thoughts exactly, well maybe not the exact wording :) I think woman are more concerned about these dates than men.

No i turn my nose up at best before dates. Bad experiences with lumpy milk, soggy crisps, spiders in my corn flakes (not exotic ones) and mouldy bread.

go for it-if it doesn't smell strange or have mold on it-its usually fine-when you bake you don't have dates on stuff-and shop stuff has loads more perservatives in them !

I mean-what tells a cake it is midnight on the date before its out-of-date so needs to go back....................just go with your instinct !
