What action appropriate for Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross? (Update: Controller of BBC Radio 2 resigns)

Should there be a disciplinary procedure by the BBC? Should they be fired, or should others be held accountable? Or do you perhaps think what they did was acceptable behaviour? As someone who pays the BBC licence fee, my vote - if I had one - would be to let both of them go elsewhere.

I disagree with their actions...ok I can see the funny side about what they did but what they said about his grand daughter was totally out of order
#5
What happened then?
banned#6
fire them both, what did they say about his daughter anyway?
#9
stupid childish but dont think malicious....i like JR but RB is a nutter anyway...
#10
they did wrong but i dont think any jobs will be lost over it as its not worth it. they draw too many listeners and viewers than complaints!! they will probably just have to accept the bbc will applogise and then they hang there heads in shame for a few weeks then everything will be over. russel brand is probably lapping it up - its publicity that he's used too. pushing the boundries is what he does...
#11
what have I missed, checking the link..
#12
no one died, an apology and charity donation will do imo, then Russell can come visit me for his punishment

Nothing but a publicity stunt IMO.

How old his is grandaughter? If she's a child, then I probably wouldn't find it funny at all if someone was talking like that about my grandaughter. If she was grown up, then I'd probably just think 'what a pair of kn*bs' and leave it at that.
#17
If RB had done the same to one of JRs daughters I dont think he would of found it so funny!!

good thread fellow VLR member.

Just shows what sort of garbage they show on tv, what next Wife Swap....oh wait

I dont care too much what they said, I don't get offended much anyway, I hardly watch the celeb interviews on TV anyway, I just stick to my documentaries and Bear Grills survival stuff.
#20
Id sack russell brand and suspend jonathon ross
#21
6th form humour not even worth the media attention its getting, phone jacker is worse.
#22

it was a joke

where is the english sense of humour these days

i say knight them both, 2 of the funniest men on tv/radio
#24
I can see the funny side of it but it was out of order, especially about a loved one and without consent to this kind of joke.

The BBC obviously condoned these actions though, as they didn't cut them off air, so I think they should be brutally punished by giving them a £50 fine if it's paid within 14 days of the offence or £100 within 28 days.......oh wait......this isn't a parking fine. :giggle:

I think a public apology should be suffient with a weeks pay of both JR and RB donated to Sachs family, as a goodwill gesture.

they r nuts...its showbiz baby!

Thank you comrade. I neither listen to Radio 2 or ever watch anything by either of them if I can help it, so I'm probably a bit biased about this anyway - I've long felt JR is a huge waste of BBC money. The amount of high quality TV that could be made with his salary alone would justify letting him go to one of the rival channels. And as for RB - I've only seen him a couple of times and read a few things he's written, and find him offensive and a very negative role-model for young people. I don't think I'm being prudish - I appreciate a lot of boundary pushing humour and have a healthy attitude towards sexual matters - I just think his humour is a particularly damaging type, probably because he seems to actually be damaged - rather than just acting a role.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think they are a pair of arrses who would be classed as bullies if they did their stuff in a school or wherever rather than on TV.

UIsed to watch Woss for his guests on his chat show but even that is more about him now than anyone else. Not bothered if I never saw or heard either of them on the TV or radio again to be honest.

Jonathan Ross .......in the news again .........What a t-o-s-s-o-r he is . One of the most highest paid TV hosts on telly ..............for WHAT ? . He has no tallent whatsoever , asks his guests crude and embassing questions and uses the "f" word in every sentence and they call that entertainment . He thinks he can get away with anything by the BBC in the name of comedy . The soft BBC actually let him get away with anything if it gets higher ratings .I think he gets £16.000.000 a year for his stupid , childish antics .

Off with his head ...I say .

Nice post ricko - agree with everything. You forgot to mention the chuckling idiot on the radio with him on Sat mornings...

was very funny
lets leave em alone huh.

I have absolutely no doubts - they should both be fired without any compensation and never re-employed. They are the pits.
#39
Has to be the most unfunny, desperate, pathetic piece of radio I've heard in my life. Seriously, it was like a train wreck and just kept on and on. The unfunny, disrespectful ***** should be put to sleep for their crimes against the age old medium of radio broadcasting and never rehired again.

I could only stomach 10 minutes of this boring, sleep enducing excuse for entertainment and am about to listen to the other half now out of sheer curiousity.

How this got out (it was pre-recorded!) is beyond me, and the producer should be shot in the head for allowing this to even materialise.

Even without the 'offending' material this was absolutely DIRE! Anyone with an IQ in double or higher figures will want to rip their eardrums clean out to protect themselves from the same verbal molestation ever again.

I think that sums it up pretty well, I read through the transcript and couldn't believe how crude and unfunny it all was.

I'm surprised all of the criticism has been levelled at Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand as clearly whoever let this go on air made a massive error and shares the blame. I guess as it's someone anonymous there's been no public focus.
