Good evening fine HUKDers, I need your expert help once again.
I bought an Epson DX4400 all in one printer form Argos back in May 2008. I have only used the printer a few times. Only changed the ink for the first time yesterday lol.
Basically when it goes to print it takes a sheet of paper into its bit where it prints but doesn't actually grip onto it thus printing in the inside of the printer (if you know what i mean)
When i took it into Argos they told me where to go and weren't very helpful (my argos has terrible cs)
I want to know what to do now, i just wanted a refund so i could wait until after Christmas to get another one but no. Had my receipt and all the relevant parts so was pretty miffed.
What should i do now? Im sure i read somewhere about there being selling laws or something which says if the product breaks within a small amount of time then something can be done (think it was on MSE)

You'll have to contact the manufacturer as its over a year.

there is something called a "fit for purpose" rule, I think its up to 6 years after purchase. It might just be for larger items, i dont know alot about it. Argos prob will not help because you have had it over 12 months.

Have a read of the "Sale of Goods Act".
The manufacturer do not have to do a thing, your contract is with Argos.

Take it back to the Argos shop manager and ask him/her to get it fixed free of charge or issue a voucher for at 60-70% of the purchase value.

The goods should have lasted a reasonable time, for a printer IMO that should to be 24-30month. Anything shorter than that and the buyer should take it back to the shop, for at least a partial credit note/refund.

There is little point in calling Epson, they will refuse to do anything but basic trouble shooting of the problem. Next time buy an HP, their customer relations team is far more customer focused (convinced them to do a out of warranty replacements on various occasions).

Forget it. Epson printers 1 year only warranty. Not economical to repair them. Argos don't have to do anything after over 18 months.

Does not matter whether you flogged it, or only used it a few times. Yes it's wrong, they should last longer but that's why the price of printers / Epsons have dropped....and so has the reliability.

After a variety of inkjets, including Epsons I decided on a black and white lazer printer which I got for £50. Very reliable when required, even if not used for a long time

I presume this printer only cost a few quid £40 - £50 , you could pursue it but you would need to get a report done on it to prove it was an inherent fault and then send a letter to Argos recorded delivery asking them to repair or replace, they could offer a refund but this could be pro rota as you have had some use out of the item

It probably isnt worth it to be honest

It was £39.99, im going to query it with the argos manager but not got my hopes up :cry:

I've just filed a claim against Epson in the small claims court. My issue is slightly different because my printer is less than 12 months old and I bought it direct from epson. It has gone faulty , they will not repair it because it's not economical to do so. They will only replace it but the model is now discontinued. They will not substitute it for a same spec model , they expect me to wait an unknown time until they get more stock in of a discontinued line. 3 times they have promised me a swap would take place and every time they have failed to deliver. Today I filed court papers against them as I will not be walked over. The service is shocking from them. My claim is for £114.99 so a little more than yours

Best of luck anyway
