Quit my 60hr week, 12hr day/night shifts that has been my life for the last 8 years to go self employed, regain my social life and hopefully reconnect with friends that gave up asking me to attend events as i was always working. Best thing i ever done, financially poorer for it, but mentally and physically healthier than ever before and thus a lot lot happier.

Quit work to concentrate on more important things. Helped friend leave an emotionally abusive relationship. Helped another friend stave off bankruptcy. Turned a blank canvas of a house into a home by the magic of diy. Mastered a sewing machine . Ish . Actually I'm still pretty rubbish with the sewing machine but I try

Moved from a tiny terraced house to a big semi detached with lovely neighbour. It's amazing what it has done for my mental well being

I always used to hang on to them to the point of destruction. Fair play

That is my plan too this year :D 60 hour weeks working 12 hours a time both days and nights is a killer.

saw the best in a group of 24 teenagers that had been 'labelled' as difficult and got the most gratifying response from all of them.

Got 4 Jaffa cakes in my mouth at once. I know some people can do more but for me it's significant as it's a 33% improvement on last year.

That's brilliant, well done. I joined Slimming World in September and have lost just over 3 stone so far so that's the best thing I did this year.

Great idea for a thread, it's easy to dwell on the negative particularly with the general mood the media is in at the moment but I'd actually forgotten a lot of the positive things that happened in 2016 until I started going through photos to remind me which I put together here:

Alfie is adorable. Great photos with some lovely scenery. I'm going to make it my mission to visit more of Scotland, I haven't seen enough of its beauty. The furthest North I've been is Ballachulish/Glencoe. I'm from Edinburgh but live in Glasgow now.

Wow this thread got me thinking!

I do lots of little things that make others happy and that makes me happy!

Passing year 3 exams on my way to being a doctor is probably the best achievement. I gave away a few cinema tickets and left them anonymously for a child cancer charity within the hospital for them to never find out it was me :p (slightly worried they might think I was doing it for a better placement grade so never told them it was me).

Unfortunately one of my not so best bits has been my Dad breaking his hip and just out this week but everyone from the ambulance crew who picked him up, the doctors, nurses, therapists, the x-ray staff etc. have been exceptional and I'm so glad there's so many good people out there helping others, it's a shame you only really hear the bad bits of the NHS in the news. Congratulations on your exams and thanks from people like me who still can't even stand the sight of needles, thought I was doing better but almost fainted when my Dad was getting a blood test and I hadn't even seen the needle :(

I love random acts of kindness and try to encourage my young charges to do more themselves. Best of luck with the rest of your studies.

I think the best thing that I have done this year is to review what are really my priorities in life. :)

Well done you! Best thing was yesterday i bought (another) new pair of jeans that are 6 sizes smaller than i used to wear a year ago! Getting expensive this weight loss thing - but worth it. I've saved money by not using SW or WW or anything - just my own voice telling me to sort myself out!! :)

That's brilliant, you must be so pleased and should feel very proud. It certainly is expensive having to buy new clothes but worth it. I went out today to buy new tops in the sale and I am 2-3 sizes smaller depending on the shop. Thankfully I was given money for Christmas as family know I need new clothes. I've tried to eat healthier on my own in the past but I never lasted so going to a group every week and aiming for a certificate which you get for every half stone lost has kept me on track. Well done for managing to lose so much in your own :)

Good post, some great things everyone has done here! well done everyone <3 xxx

All I've seemed to do this year is get fat :(
Though I did find a missing man and took him home, that was nice. And a lady few weeks ago missed her bus to countryside so I offered and gave her a lift back, which wasn't a big deal but it turned out to be miles out of town in middle of nowhere and was so thick with fog and pitch black it was a scary experience ha. But no nothing major except the fat thing which isn't so good lol x
