What car to get?

Looking to buy my first car. Not after the usual Polo, or punto.

Can't seem to find any decent looking lowish spec cars.

Really like the look of this BMW 535i sport, but insurance is going to be a bomb.

Looking forward to your recommendations.

What about the new KA, they;re nice?

For something a bit less "first car"y what about a Mazda 6? Mines only a group 8, and i think the 2.3 Sport is lowish as well. Can also pick up a C Class at a reasonable price and only group 13

Haven't researched this myself but isn't classic car insurance supposed to be cheap(er)?

It is if you get a proper classic car policy but then you are stung with usage limitations. There will be a strict mileage limit on the policy, say around 5,000 maximum per year. They may also state that you can only use the car for pleasure and NOT commuting to and from a permanent place of work.

I am sure some people will say "but they'll never check" which is true, because motor policies are taken out on the basis of utmost good faith. But if you have a claim, THEN they'll check.

So if you do look at a classic policy, look at the small print.

17 + BMW = 2k insurance - guess.

When I had my first BMW at 19, it was a 316 Auto and the insurance was £1200 under my mothers name. I dont advise doing this but without my mums name on the insurance, I would have been looking at a 2-3K bill. Its not really worth it to be honest, get yourself a good quality small/medium car. 1 Series is nice, but also things like the mercedes A Class etc.

This is very true as my mate have a classic MG which his dad bought him for his 16th birthday and they spent just over a year doing it up and when he passed he had restrictions similar to the above alongside it HAD to be garaged for at least 6 out of 7 nights a week!

Insurance on my 1 Series was about £1000 at 19. But insurance on my Punto was £1600 when I was 17, so be prepared for £2-3000+

I like the semi auto clutch on the A class, other than that its a bit of a ladies car.
