Morning All,

I sold my car on friday and im not on the hunt for a new car. I've got about £5,500 to spend so really looking for suggestions on what to get!

Ideally im looking for something a bit economical but still nice to drive!

At the moment i debating between the saab 9-3 diesel, astra diesel, focus diesel, celica. or maybe a bmw 3 series!

Just confused on what to get really!

the other half has a fiesta, girls car maybe, but it drives very very nicely

Mazda MX5 - totally self-indulgent and some of the best fun you can have with your clothes on !!!

the bmw is by far the best quality but the focus will be the most economical!, celica most fun & i would discount the other two.

Yup yup. Go German. So in this case, BMW. Look at some Audis aswell. maybe. if you want.

Avoid the Saab, its a vectra with a smart suit on, and hence hideous in every way possible.

Out of your other options go for the celica. Decent to drive, usual reliable Japanese build quality.

What about an Astra Estate 1.9cdti? 150bhp, so quite fast. You can pick them up for your budget as well.

there is an audi a4 1.8turbo so it might be that one then.

The problem with the celica is the size, i am 6ft 4....so would be an issue/same as the mx-5

sounds good (but not estate), the only problem is they tend to be high mileage!

Probably worth 36K now

Are you really going to be happy going from an RX8 to an Astra? I guess not. The Celicas are nice, as someone mentioned, the MX5 is good, and fairly economical, as long as you don't mind only having 2 seats. I'd go for something that is still at least sporty

EDIT: Just seen the height issues.

Get yourself a honda civic type r, you could maybe get a 2004/05 model for the money you have to spend.

you can't really go wrong with an Audi/ VW

I have a seat toledo (which is the same engine as an A4 or a VW Bora I think)at the moment and Its still driving great even though it has done over 160K

I know man, going from an rx8 to anything "economical" wont be great, I went to test drive a focus ST on the weekend, and im toying with the idea of getting one of them. Paying half cash and the other half on finance, But not the biggest fan of finance!
