What is this country coming to !

Dont know if i have posted this correctly if not please feel free to move. I was watching BBC News this morning when a story was featured about a Vicar who had stopped people visiting gravesides at his parish from leaving plastic/artificial flowers. In my opinion it is outrageous , you should be able to leave whatever you want (within reason) as a mark of respect but whats yours ?

I always believed when you bought a plot it was yours to do with as you please (within reason) to help you grieve and cope with the death of a loved one, that's why they charge so much isn't it?

I can't stand artifical flowers myself.

I only ever take fresh flowers or a real plant to a grave.

I think plastic does look tacky but I guess they last longer.

Not exactly biodegradeable though are they.

I agree with the vicar. Having to clean up artificial flowers strewn over the graveyard when bad weather avails.

Think outside the box perhaps (_;)

What has one vicar's opinion got to do with the country as a whole?

After visiting a graveyard over Christmas I totally disagree, some of them looked like Santa's grotto, I expected some of them to have flashing lights on. Some of them go way OTT and make it look cheap and tacky. Guess they have a rule of nothing but fresh flowers to stop people going overboard.

Hot topic perhaps but not a hot deal! :)

It's not "this country" though is it? It's "that vicar". Even if it was a nationwide ban by a particular fragment of the Christian faith... it would still just be about that particular organisation... not the country. Apologies for what my appear to be pedantry but... ah well.

But yes I agree, you should be able to leave whatever you want at a grave side. In fact you would think that artificial flowers would in some ways be preferable to fresh ones where the graves aren't tended regularly.

Maybe he owns a Florist shop near the grave yard.

Maybe the vicar thought that relatives may visit the grave more often to replace the fresh flowers........plastic ones kind of signify that the grave isn't going to be visited again for a looong time.......

My family are buried all over the country.

I can't afford to visit them very often but when I do I will still leave fresh flowers.

Good on the Vicar. Common sense prevails.

I also saw this.
It's a difficult one. You can see the argument from both sides.
Although saying that, i know that some rabbits eat both the real AND artificial flowers.
Such a pain!

Same as most of Europe though - unless you want to live in Latvia?
