Am i wrong to believe its ok to sell consoles that are flashed in the UK? and it's wrong in the USA?

Whats the laws that are in breach? I know sony don't even want people to flash the PS3 (which is allowed in the UK?) - They are currently wanting to take george hotz to court, i know, he's an american citizen. But IF he was english, how would it stand?

Cheers.

you need to read through the copyright and trademarks act to find the answers to your question. Circumvention is the word you need to look for.

The way I understand it, it is a criminal offence within the EU to circumvent a digital copyright protection mechanism.

Flashing your PS3 is not illegal, if the new firmware doesn't incorporate the ability to play copied disks. Problem is that if Sony denies you access to added value services because of your custom firmware, you will not be able to force them to allow you access.
