and make sure your not tired, you need to be awake and listen

take your time, remain calm and don't worry about stalling, grinding the gears or anything else as its your first lesson! Pay attention and, if the instructor is good, you'll soon improve.

In terms of preparation, I wouldn't do anything beyond what you've already done, you can't really learn until you're sat in the car.

This is great advice.

I passed a few months ago and if going on a long journey always where my 'driving shoes' whenever I did my lessons in different pairs of shoes it affected my driving. Also I made sure I was awake a good while before my lesson and had showered and eaten to ensure I was alert and feeling fresh, once I overslept and hurried around and had a terrible lesson!

For the record I am now comfotable enough that I can drive in different shoes and dont need to have breakfeast etc.. but its particularly improtant when you dont have many road hours under your belt :p

Agreed to all points especially stalling as people tend to panic when they do it...dont worry about it and chillax homie!

Tell us all where you will be driving so we can avoid that area :)

it REALLY affects...so find the best pair and stick with them...soon as I realised i actually put them in a carrier bag and carried them everytime I was having a lesson...in the end Instructor kept them in the boot for me lol

you do know that it's not an offence to drive in unsuitable shoes BUT (god forbid) anything happened the police do take into account the type of shoes you wear.

i do own trainers...but I'd rather not drive than wear them in public:p

just wear them in the car babe, just use your gym ones

i thought one of the biggest things when learning (it has been for me) is make sure you are comfortable, I was told in my fist lesson 'always wear comfortable, appropriate footwear'.
I don't mean to have a go at you, but how do you have any control over the brake, gas or clutch...how can you tell how hard you are pressing?
it would be like strapping a can of paint to each (standard) shoe, and trying to drive like that.

i couldnt drive in trainers or heels-i can drive in flipflops now though:thumbsup:
Took a long time to learn. Trainers stuck on pedals-heals slipped. A light shoe is better imo to start with.
