I've heard some people say they've exchanged their unworking psps by ringing up Sony. I'm wondering if anyone please can help me! What is the best thing to say and do they charge for this service? I've heard some say they charge and some say it's free. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me and rep will be given! Thanks!

We had a faulty console sent it to sony before they do any repairs they will contact you. They did want to charge for repairs but we told them we were not prepaired to pay as it was still under warranty. With a little bit of haggling over the phone they sorted the fault out and no charge. Good luck.

Had a v1 (1003) PSP which I got cheap from ebay a few days prior exchanged for a brand new one.

Made up a date of purchase.

Made up a fault (UMD discs were 8/10 not loading - was techy but not overly so, making it so the guy on the phone could come to a solution, i.e. problem with the laser, needs replacing - this works)

Brand new one 2 days later, straight swap. Sony use a collection agency which do pickups for various companies as far as I could tell - they'll check the box for the PSP, battery and original mains charger. Nothing else is required in the exchange. Your new PSP will come in generic packaging.

Good luck!

I don't see why not. If it's out of warranty just follow my lead above...

"When did you purchase the PSP?"

"umm.. it must have been before christmas.. last week of november? 25th I think..."

I rang this morning and after taking my details, and the psp serial number he went away for a few seconds then came back and said they now charge £65 for a exchange. My sister who called yesterday said they said they would exchange hers! :? I don't know why this is so, she had the same problem as me of it not turning on but her psp lights did flash. Do you think it's worth ringing back with different details and change the serial numbers a little when they ask? or does anyone know if they actually check the psp serial numbers when they come to collect? Thanks for any help!! I can't fork out for a new replacement, i couldn't possibly afford it, but i feel bad for my son who loves the psp.

they dont check the serial numbers when they collect but if you have already given your address you may have a problem perhaps you can use your mums address of something worth another go

I bought my PSP in the States and have had it for over 3 years. I've probably had less than 50 hours use out of it and the UMD drive has packed in.

The unit itself is immaculate, would they even consider replacing it? In case you're wondering how I can get so little use out of a console I'm also a DS owner

Thankyou everyone who's helped by replying to my post!! I can confirm that it does still work! I rang up and told them the analogue stick doesn't work properly and they said it was a manufacter fault and so will replace it (for free) for another same model. It arrived and looks like a brand new psp 1003, the inside might be refurbished. My son is so overjoyed so i wanted to say lots of thanks to everyone, especially tubbie74 for your pms. Thanks everyone:thumbsup:

So you gave them the correct serial number, and they replaced it without a receipt?

Actually i gave the same serial number but changed one of the numbers, i felt quite bad but to tell you the truth the person i spoke to was so much nicer then before. I think it's to do with who you talk to on the day. And yes i said i had no receipt it was a gift
