I'd recommend Argos as a first job! They paid well in comparison to what my mates earned at the likes of tesco, morrisons, next, matalan, mcdonalds...etc, at 16 you'd be looking at about a fiver an hour, but Argos used to pay time+1/2 on Sundays! I dunno if they still do....

So you don't believe in higher wages?

£6.50 an hour is a joke........no-one should have to be on such a low wage. Minimum wage should be higher than what it currently is.

Besides my paper round my 1st job was the Army which paid a massive, £24 per day (technically in the Army you are available for work 24/7 365 days a year) so a massive £1 an hour.

A lot more than £6.50 per hour. lol. I have children to maintain.

I'd find it soul destroying. My first job almost 20 years ago paid more than that.

at morrisons it'll probably be about 10-20p about minimum wage. thats what its like for everyone. time & a half for sundays but normal for bank hols, though you get an extra day added to your holiday entitlment.

It wasn't intended in a mocking/smug way. More of that it's appalling that they can get away with paying people so little (especially when you look at the profits these supermarkets make).
