He got it when XP first came out and it has a single amd 1.66ghz processor, 256mb of ram, 40gb HDD,
It still runs ok and the question is, is there anything worth taking from it or should I scrap it? Do people need very old parts for repairs or is there a charity that would accept an old computer like this? Or shall I just blow it up :D
Thanks

I have so many at home with nothing to do with them aswell.

I'm 17 and already have 3 of my computers in my room, by the time I'm his age I'm going to need a new house X)

It runs really well for a computer that age and it still has sonic installed on it from when I was much younger (meaning it hasn't had a fresh install for a fair while!) Also definitely just spotted I gained the heatwave badge... how exciting (_;)

do a experiment on it by taking it up to the 10th floor of a building and throw it on some1's head,by the way don't forget to tie a rope to it and the other end to your self...................ha ha....sink it in the sea

I have the same and it can do it ok for just internet and office. Hell I have XP running and usable (just), or a pentium II 233mhz with 64mb ram.

Well you are a zealous fan of Windows, fast boot times and speedy productivity aren't something you'll be used to :p

Well yeah... It boots up as well as my computer running vista (soon to be my dads :) ) And does all the basic processes like word, excel fast enough. Btw its an AMD athlon xp 2000+ and it appears to have 234mb or ram... lol

We wondered the same thing a while ago. Didn't know what was the HD and due to having hundreds of pics of our kids stored in PC and saved passwords we decided best bet was to burn the whole unit oO lol Didn't work as we had expected though.

Would seem we have a disagreement in what constitutes an OS running "fine".

any more suggestions? I also have a similar old pc that needs to go but not sure what to do. Is there any companies that deal with these?

People on freecycle would snap your hand off for it. Gumtree is another option.

I'll give ya a couple of quid for the ram, bloody computers in work are running on 256 and its impossible to do anything with them.

Why, that machine would run fine with a bit more ram, be more than enough for any "normal" person who isnt into games.

Not saying linux isnt good, but there isnt need for it in many cases. Just people who think they know more and want to pretend they do.
