Hi im wanting to buy a new laptop and have £100 worth of Argos vouchers so thought about buying one from there, not my usual choice of shop to by a laptop but this Toshiba doesnt seem a bad price.

The link is

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5080609/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%2C+PCs+and+phones%7C12108629/c_2/2%7Ccat_12108629%7CComputers+and+laptops%7C12108658/c_3/3%7Ccat_12108658%7CLaptops%7C12108673.htm

Anyone agree its not bad value for the price? It seems a fairly good spec i wont be using it for games etc just general web browsing and other low performance tasks.

Pretty avergae spec, AMD processors are pretty good but power hungry so drain batteries quick...Only 2gb of ram and small hard drive. Worth paying as bit more and getting Intel

Your link points to a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 but I have to say that is not a great laptop either.

It has 2Gb of memory and 160Gb hard drive (the same as the one the original poster listed so no gain there).

The CPU is a Pentium Dual Core T2390 which is not a particularly new or fast CPU, and it only has a 533Mhz Front Side Bus.

I will see if I can find a better deal for around £350.

This seems a good deal if you are willing to go to a 17" screen.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5080764/Trail/searchtext%3ETOSHIBA.htm

It is the Toshiba L350-170 and is £329.99

Agreed it only has a Pentium Dual Core T3200 (not a "proper" Core 2 Duo) but it has a large 17" screen, 2Gb of memory, a large 250Gb hard drive, and is 667Mhz Front Side Bus (so faster than the 533Mhz mentioned above).

I think for £329.99 this is a pretty good deal.

If you want a 15" screen then this is probably the best deal on the Argos site

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5070286/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%2C+PCs+and+phones%7C12108629/c_2/2%7Ccat_12108629%7CComputers+and+laptops%7C12108658/c_3/3%7Ccat_12108658%7CLaptops%7C12108673.htm

An Acer Aspire AS5920G at £369.99

It has a "proper" Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 (with 2Mb of Cache - four times as much as the first Toshiba you listed - more cache means a faster laptop).

It has 2Gb of memory and a large 250Gb harddrive. It also has Vista Home Premium.

There are cheaper laptops on the Argos site, but they all seem to be Celeron CPUs which are generally slow. I have no idea what Acer are like, but if I was going to buy a 15" laptop from Argos at around that price that seems the best deal.
