For those at a college or university what are you currently studying?

I'm studying Journalism at Robert Gordon University and I'm in year one, really enjoying it too.

Awesome, been out much doing journalistic things yet?

My friend goes to Napier to do journalism but apparently it's more broadcast based as opposed to all rounded like mine.

Not really done much in the way of "journalistic" things. In my second year, and had about 30 hours of journalism lecture, the rest of it is all media production crap. To be honest, I think journalism is more what you do to help yourself. I've applied for various work placements in the summer, 20+ at famous companies, so even if just one of those comes off, it's something good on the CV.

I'm kind of lucky because I have a few contacts, but perhaps I'm relying on these too much. I get annoyed at my course because I don't really care about film culture or theory, or new media, but I have to study all that stuff in certain modules. It kind of sucks, but I can honestly say I put everything into the journalism modules, and I really enjoy them.

Ah right, I'm only in first year but we've already been sent out with Maraz voice recorder/mic decks in duos to get sound byte interviews, a 5 minute interview and to get a news story from our patch, and soon we're going out with the cameras :)

You learning shorthand? My Uni has cut a deal with Aberdeen College to provide us a course, but we have to pay £220 upfront and we get a refund if we maintain 90% attendence and sit the exam.

I guess I told a lie - we've been out with cameras and sound recorders, and done pieces like that, but instead of being given time to research a story we were just told to go out and record anything that moved. We landed on our feet and did a radio article about mussels, haha. We did a short 5 minute documentary too in a group of 4, which we did on a local hospice.

I'm much more into writing though, I hate the sound of my own voice, so I don't like doing the radio bits, and I look like a plum on camera so I hate the filming bits!
